WCNC-TV, the TEGNA-owned NBC affiliate in Charlotte, North Carolina, has an amazing opportunity for a creative, innovative, and enterprising Anchor/Multi-Skilled Journalist who is an excellent on-camera communicator to help serve the needs of our audience and community. We are looking for a journalist who excels at both accountability reporting and breaking news. We are seeking candidates who will trailblaze the future of news, find and defend the truth, and tell the stories of our community. This anchor should be someone who is comfortable asking tough but fair questions. This journalist must be able to work with producers to develop smart and engaging newscasts. We are looking for someone who understands the "why" behind stories and excels at impact journalism. The Anchor is a newsroom leader who will be one of the faces of the station in charge of developing contacts and relationships in the community enabling them to create and present unique, compelling, and innovative stories of interest.

Candidates should have examples of strong anchoring, breaking news reporting, and creative storytelling. We need someone who is deeply committed to local news, a natural competitor-wanting to consistently break lead stories in the Charlotte market, and loves covering breaking news and weather and seeking out solutions for our community.

Responsibilities:

  • Anchor newscasts, and cut-ins, along with any breaking news either on-air or on our digital platforms.
  • Generate viewer and brand focused story/show ideas and content.
  • Deliver stories on-air/digital platforms in an engaging, informative, and conversational manner.
  • Excellent use of social media for news gathering/disseminating and community engagement.
  • Produce short-and-long form community content/specials for multiple platforms.
  • Work with management, producers, and reporters to create an engaging newscast, write and copy edit to improve all content every day.
  • Represent WCNC-TV at community events.
  • Take leadership role in newscast production with strong news judgement.
  • Perform other tasks as required by management.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor degree in communications or related field
  • Minimum of three - five years of on-air experience as a news reporter
  • Must be able to report in a broad range of styles with good on-air/live presentation skills.
  • Strong on-camera delivery with the ability to ad-lib.
  • Demonstrated ability to post graphics and content to various digital media platforms.
  • Excellent, creative presentation and writing skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced and deadline driven environment.
  • Strong social media presence.
  • Passion for being involved in the community and ability to build new connections.
  • Innovative mindset that generates creative solutions on projects.
  • Availability to work a flexible schedule
  • Current valid driver's license and excellent driving history
