Job Description:
The Simon & Schuster imprint is seeking an Associate Art Director to design and art direct front list book covers; working closely with editorial, managing editorial and production staff to maintaining proper work flow and deadlines. Ideal candidate must be familiar with the adult trade market. Candidates will work closely with the Art Director but should mostly be able to work autonomously art directing with designers, illustrators and photographers. Seeing projects through from conception to production.

Qualifications:
  • 7 years experience in publishing for the adult trade market.
  • Diverse design sensibility in both fiction (literary to fantasy) and non-fiction.
  • Strong typographic knowledge and skills. Must be an independent and strong thinker.
  • Must be extremely well organized, able to manage many projects simultaneously.
  • Needs excellent communication, interpersonal and project management skills.
  • Should have strong Mac skills including AdobeCC, basic retouching and photo/image compositing.
This position is Hybrid (mostly WFH with ~8-10 days working from our NY office/year).

The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York City, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
