Job Description


A Color Assistant is a key support role responsible for preparing footage and edits for the Colorists. Their tasks include media ingestion, conforming edits, and ensuring all materials are ready for sessions. They assist during grading sessions, manage new materials, and export final deliverables according to client or internal specifications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with Producers to ensure all prep materials are correct and delivered on time for each job.
  • Ingest media, load EDLs, import video/data, and conform all required materials to match the EDL, ensuring Colorists have the correct assets.
  • Manage, export, and transfer graded images to the in-house finishing team or deliver via client-requested platforms (hard drives or cloud services).
  • Identify and report software bugs to engineering and third-party software developers.
  • Prepare data for the Color Grading suite, ensuring everything is set for the Colorist’s session with clients.
  • Handle special requests from Colorists, such as denoising, tracking, or match grading.
  • Identify and prep pick-ups or match grades during sessions to ensure smooth and efficient workflows.

Qualifications
  • Strong understanding of film, video, and data production principles.
  • Proficiency in Baselight is required; experience with Resolve, Avid, and Adobe software is a plus.
  • Keen attention to detail and the ability to manage tasks efficiently under tight deadlines.
  • Interest or experience in photography is desirable.
  • Solid knowledge of Mac OS, with some familiarity with Linux systems.
  • In-depth understanding of cameras, codecs, formats, and file types.
  • Flexibility with working hours to meet project demands.
  • Previous experience with MCR operations and a strong grasp of post-production processes.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in the post-production industry.

Additional Information


The pay range for this full-time staff position is: $28-$32/hr not including potential overtime, which is a good-faith assessment associated with this position only and pursuant to the California Pay Transparency Law.
