Job Title: Reporter/Anchor - Jacksonville Radio
Position Overview
Jacksonville Radio has an immediate opening for an enterprising and energetic local Reporter/Anchor. This individual will join a newsroom that emphasizes local news, breaking news, daily investigative reporting and severe weather coverage. Reporter must dig for extra information. They must also be adept at using social media to gather and break stories. You will be technical producer for live newscast, syndicated shows, as well as, breaking news and severe weather situations. This position will work closely with our news team and is a vital part of the operation. Candidates should be able to run a board and feel confident on air.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Enterprise ideas and develop relationships with sources
- Flawless technical execution (running the board)
- Reaches out to sources and fosters a relationship
- Must be able to follow multiple format clocks
- Must be able to multitask and be very well organized
- Will operate Wheatstone Console, Wide Orbit Automation, Comrex Access, Opal, Adobe Audition, and other broadcast equipment
- Remains extremely knowledgeable of all local and national news
- Will contribute to content prep, production, idea generation, and other duties related to the execution of content
- Update and maintain station website and social media
- Monitor multiple sources for breaking news, traffic problems and weather alerts
- Pitches original, local stories with impact
- Follows research guidelines when fertilizing ideas
- Writes accurate, grammatically correct scripts
- Digs for information
- Follows time guidelines
- Presents stories live as needed
- Send appropriate and timely listener alerts including App, EAS and NOAA
- Create, edit, and file timely news stories for on-air newscasts
- Must be able to handle pressure situations, various personalities, and a very quick pace
Minimum Qualifications
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Should be proficient with Windows/Microsoft Office/Chrome
- Must have a positive attitude and be able to work within a team environment with a shared vision for success
- Must be willing to learn additional skills related to producing a morning show
- Must be flexible with work hours including weekends and holidays
- Must be detail oriented, self-motivator, troubleshooter
- 3 years’ experience as a Reporter required
- Must have a valid driver's license and clean driving record
Preferred Qualifications
- B.A Degree in Journalism, Communications, or Other discipline preferred
