The Associate Brand Art Director teams up with our internal Creative, Production Team and Licensees to support visual development across multiple licensed titles by providing direction, guidance, and feedback - ensuring all our games are authentic and high-quality experiences for our fans to enjoy all around the world.

The Associate Brand Art Director will report to the Brand Art Director.

This is a Full-Time role.

Must submit a portfolio or demo.

What You Will Do

  • Collaborate with external game developers, Art Director and staff, to guide a game’s visual progress from concept through to live service.

  • Review game design, art and marketing submissions ensuring content is on brand and high-quality utilizing paint-overs, mockups, and draw-overs.

  • Establish high benchmarks and provide recommendations to bridge game needs with brand visuals through art style guides and reviewing game assets to elevate visual design and execution.

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the Lucasfilm brand (past and present) across media including live-action storytelling, animation, publishing, and games.

  • Problem-solve creative and quality issues; identify achievable solutions delivering brand quality while meeting gameplay and production needs.

  • Communicate with Creative Supervisor regarding goals, priorities, and individual project progress.

  • Collaborate with Lucasfilm groups including Creative, Marketing and Production.

  • Partner with Art Coordinator to pull reference applicable to products.

  • Develop style guides and presentations for new and existing IP; design and develop as needed for internal creative collateral for franchise business development and brand guidelines.

  • Meet with game developers both in person and remotely to collaborate on specific project requirements, progress, and goals.

  • Maintain personal expenses reporting and booking travel.

  • Archive the art of our current projects for future reference.

  • Play and feedback on prototype, Alpha and Beta builds to provide feedback on player experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Passion for games. Experienced in playing current and past games for understanding of genres and game mechanics including mobile and AAA live service.

  • Open to direction; Ability to process and prioritize levels of feedback to find approved solutions.

  • Passion for the Star Wars and Lucasfilm heritage brand; broad understanding of current and past Star Wars properties across multiple lines of business.

  • Strong understanding of game development including art creation processes (both 2D and 3D), technology and game engine requirements and advancements, trade-offs and challenges associated with development.

  • Excellent knowledge of art and visual design principles and techniques regarding character and environment design, rendering, color, animation., and cinematography.

  • Strong draftsmanship skills with the ability to draw and digitally paint characters, environments, and structures.

  • Excellent process and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects, set priorities, track progress, and meet deadlines and expectations.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to provide clear and concise feedback and guidance, and present ideas with clarity and conviction.

  • Self-starter, reliable and passionate about their work and committed to their discipline and its challenges.

  • Full-time work schedule with additional hours as needed during product launches or when working with international partners.

  • Ability to travel domestic and international as required.

  • Proficient and knowledgeable about Macs, PCs, game consoles and peripherals.

  • Software requirements: Adobe Creative Suite, Experience with a 3D package (Maya, 3DS Max, etc.), Experience with game engines (Unreal, Unity, etc.) is a plus.

Education/Experience

  • BA/BFA or equivalent experience in critique and discussing art fundamentals.

  • 5 + years of experience on a mobile, ‘AAA’ console or PC products. Experience with Live Service and with AR and VR is a plus.

  • 2+ years of experience in games leadership role and working on licensed products.

The hiring range for this position in San Francisco, CA is $122,700 to $164,500 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
