The Los Angeles Times has a part-time, temporary opening for a talented and energetic photojournalist. The successful applicant will work closely with our award-winning photography team and editors to create the most effective visual display for print and digital platforms. The ideal candidate should have strong photography, journalism and visual storytelling skills. The applicant must be an excellent communicator and able to work well in a team environment.

Responsibilities:
  • Cover a variety of assignments including breaking news, features, entertainment and sports
  • Create high-end portraits as needed
  • Work closely with supervisor/photo editors on a daily basis to enhance photojournalism skills
  • Write accurate, thorough, error-free captions
  • Generate and execute visual story ideas
Requirements:
  • A minimum of five years of journalism experience
  • Excellent photographic skills; can produce cover-worthy photos for every section of the paper
  • Excellent studio and lighting skills
  • Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work effectively under deadline pressures
  • Excellent news judgment
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • High level of professionalism and enthusiasm at all times
  • Firm sense of journalistic ethics
  • Thorough knowledge of current software and use of remote transmission and communication systems
  • A good communicator and able to work well in a team environment
  • Must have current driver’s license
This part-time, temporary position is expected to last six months and will be based in El Segundo, Calif. The photographer will work a Sunday-to-Wednesday schedule. Photojournalists must have a valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle in good working condition, with suitable auto insurance coverage.

The pay scale the Company reasonably expects to pay for this position at the time of the posting is $39.10 to $44.98 and takes into account a wide range of factors including but not limited to skill set, experience, training, licenses, certifications, and other business or organizational needs. Compensation will be determined based on the above factors along with the requirements of the position. At the L.A.
