Job Summary/Description:

WCTV is immediately hiring for a position that goes beyond obligatory news and highlights. We are seeking a sports MMJ with a drive for on-demand and dynamically produced content on-air and online that feels as big as the passion of our market. The right candidate will be able to work closely with the Sports Director, Sports Reporter, and news managers to think outside of the box and dream big.

Our primary goal is to build a team of sports journalists who thrive on story-telling, and fight for opportunities to break news and tell lead stories live at the top of our newscasts. This includes producing hyperlocal, people-centered, visually-dynamic, packaged sports stories. You’ll also be expected to break news on digital and social before you go on-camera.

Duties/Responsibilities will include (but not be limited to):

  • Develop and grow sources to effectively report and break sports news with local high school, college, and regional professional teams
  • Collaborate with management and producers to ensure sports stories are as compelling as possible
  • Operate portable live units, and conduct clean, engaging live reports from the field
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of ACC, SEC & SWAC players and coaches
  • Contribute to and help grow the digital presence of WCTV Sports with an emphasis on growing over the top (OTT) initiatives (prior experience in this field preferred)
  • Anchor sports on weekend evenings
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • BS/BA in journalism or communications, computer literacy, including newsroom computer systems
  • Working knowledge of MMJ camera and editing gear, and TVU live technology
  • Ability to tell the sports story on camera, with written copy, and through social interaction
  • A valid driver`s license, good driving record and proof of insurability
  • Experience as a sports reporter or MMJ in a commercial newsroom
