Simon & Schuster is currently seeking an Editorial Assistant to join the Simon & Schuster flagship imprint. This assistant role will support a VP, Executive Editor and a Senior Editor who publish a mix of adult nonfiction and fiction. The ideal candidate should have a strong interest in contemporary arts and culture, current affairs, big ideas, entertainment, journalism, politics, memoir, criticism, as well as literary fiction.

Responsibilities:
  • Providing administrative support, such as tracking deadlines, organizing, and scheduling meetings, filing expense reports, routing invoices, executing mailings, transmitting manuscripts to production, and drafting contract requests.
  • Evaluating proposals and manuscripts, logging submissions, and drafting rejection letters.
  • Liaising with authors, publishers, agents, and other internal departments, including managing editorial, production, design, publicity, marketing, and sales to coordinate and keep track of publication process from acquisition through on-sale.
  • Preparing title information sheets, cover copy, profit & loss documents, and competitive title research.
  • Tracking trends in social media and self-publishing spaces.
Qualifications:
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • A team player mentality and the ability to build internal & external relationships with departments, authors, agents, and other stakeholders.
  • You have an enterprising spirit, and are an enthusiastic consumer of today’s cultural conversations, trends, and media.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and ability to prioritize, and outstanding follow-up, organizational, and multitask skills.
  • Ability to work independently, be proactive, self-teach, meet deadlines, anticipate needs once familiar with the role, take initiative and problem solve creatively and professionally in a fast-paced office environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York City, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
