With a strong understanding of video design theory and practice, the Video Systems Designer provides technical design expertise in media playback, routing, and display technology for Disney Live Entertainment (DLE).  

The Video Systems Designer will report to the Manager–Video Systems Design.

This is a temporary role with no guarantee of permanent placement.

What You Will Do:

  • Participate in the project's technical development and establish scope by identifying system needs and functions based on creative goals 

  • Develop video designs for live shows and facility infrastructure 

  • Create a design package as a living document from the initial concept and pitch phase through project completion and closeout 

  • Guide design progress through buy-off, procurement, installation, and test & adjust, programming, rehearsals, and opening, concluding with As-Built documentation for operating partners at the venue 

  • Partner with Technical Direction and other design disciplines 

  • Work with the CAD department to ensure 3D modeling requirements are met

  • Function as primary contact between Creative and Technical with regard to media playback/quality of media delivered by Media Development 

  • Design appropriate systems for shows and facility infrastructure that address Park operational needs 

  • Create design drawings such as Plans, Lines, Layouts, 3D pre-visualization, Occlusion Assessments, BTU/Power/Weight load estimates 

  • Work with Procurement, Technical Direction, and Production to comply with Company buying standards and schedule of receiving equipment/products/etc

  • Assist Technical Direction staff with Video Integrator Management, Factory Acceptance Testing, and Site Acceptance Testing 

  • Oversee the installation, test & adjust and programming of required elements 

  • Provide support through programming, training, rehearsals, and opening of the show 

  • Research video and projection technologies to support design effort 

  • Conduct ongoing entertainment show quality evaluations (ASQA Reports) of existing entertainment offerings to help maintain the original entertainment show intent and quality 

  • Partner with Consultant Video Designers and vendors to ensure Disney quality, compatibility, training, and proper documentation of all video services delivered 

Required Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience in video design in live show/theatrical production, live event production, and/or technical production 

  • 3+ years of experience with current technology and industry standards for all aspects of Video Design (theatrical, industrial, concert, cinematic, etc.) as applied to live show and facility infrastructure systems 

  • 3+ years of experience with most video delivery systems, such as front and rear projection, LED monitors and screens, and high-powered projectors 

  • 3+ years of experience working with multiple formats for video content creation and compatible delivery systems in both file delivery and live delivery environments, and understanding of LTC standards 

  • 3+ years of experience with video distribution and routing systems, including advanced network setup, advanced signal flow, file management, and advanced Video programming methods 

  • Experience working with Technical Director(s) and Video crew to prioritize, organize, instruct, and problem-solve during installation, content integration, and programming 

  • Experience reading architectural blueprints and interpreting electrical drawings 

  • Experience collaborating with other Designers, Directors, Writers and Producers 

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Experience accepting constructive feedback from multiple partners 

  • Experience managing change

  • Experience with CAD drafting programs both 2D and 3D 

  • Experience with 3D and UV workflow 

  • Flexibility to work nights, weekends, and holidays 

  • Must have or be willing to obtain a passport and corporate credit card for travel   

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with The Walt Disney Company (TWDC) standards and/or industry standards 

  • Fluency in additional languages (Mandarin, French, Japanese, Spanish, etc.) 

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Theater Technology and Design, Video/Broadcast Production, or 5+ years of equivalent work experience is required

The hiring range for this position in Anaheim, CA is $96,200.00-$124,400.00 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
