POSITION: Summer Film Camp (SFC) Director

HIRE DATE: April 21st - August 4th

REPORTS TO: Executive Director

WORK HOURS: Contract. Monday – Friday, weekends as needed. In-Person. No remote opportunities available. Local applicants are preferred. May work outside of normal office hours.

COMPENSATION: $11,500 Total


ABOUT US: Austin Film Festival (AFF) furthers the art and craft of filmmaking by inspiring and championing the work of screenwriters, filmmakers, and all artists who use the language of film, television, theatre, and new media to tell a story. AFF is dedicated to providing unique cultural events and services, enhancing public awareness and participation and encouraging long lasting community partnerships. The Austin Film Festival is a not-for-profit 501c3 corporation.


JOB DESCRIPTION: At Austin Film Festival, we believe all students have an important story to tell. We are committed to providing the tools and educational resources to support, encourage, and inspire Texas’ next generation of storytellers. The Austin Film Festival’s Young Filmmakers Director manages, oversees, and expands all the key initiatives of the Young Filmmakers Program to empower students to develop their creativity, production skills, and media literacy.


RESPONSIBILITIES: Primary responsibilities include managing the logistics and execution of all initiatives, managing contract staff, interns, and volunteers, marketing and managing initiative budgets, and building relationships with parents.


Initiatives include:


Summer Film Camp

  • Manage production of all camp needs, from venues, hiring, and instructor training, to background checks, equipment prep, as well as budgeting for print marketing materials, including providing copy to the marketing department for camp advertisements.
  • Market the camp and handle registrations
  • Provide excellent customer service during the camp to parents and students
  • Provide day-to-day administrative and behavior management during camp
  • Plan and execute the annual Summer Film Showcase held at the conclusion of camp

In General

  • Commitment to the AFF Mission Statement
  • Provide weekly reports and attend weekly meetings
  • Record, evaluate, and report program data for grants information
  • Complete and adhere to a pre-determined timeline
  • Create wrap up reports and provide completion materials


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field (English/Literary Arts, Education, Film, Media Arts etc.)
  • Writing experience and/or filmmaking experience
  • Teaching Experience
  • Customer service experience
  • Marketing and social media experience
  • Must have a car
  • Live event production experience preferred


REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Experience in film and video production, writing, editing, and cinematography techniques
  • Proficient with both Mac and PC platforms and related software (iMovie, Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere, Adobe After Effects)
  • A motivated self-starter adept at juggling multiple projects
  • High common sense and good discretion; trustworthy and responsible communicator
  • An independent worker with a sense of vision for the program and a development mindset
  • A forward-thinking problem solver
  • Passionate about storytelling and providing arts education opportunities
  • Enjoys working with students ages 9 – 18
  • Leadership experience, specifically with managing volunteers and teams
  • Budget management skills
  • Must be able to pass an initial fingerprint and background clearance check and always maintain a valid fingerprint clearance card for school campuses and classrooms
  • May be required to lift and carry heavy supplies and materials weighing up to 20 pounds
  • May be required to work outside normal working hours
  • May be required to travel to perform work functions
