Summer Film Camp Instructor

HIRE DATE: June 2nd – July 25th

REPORTS TO: Summer Film Camp Director and Summer Camp Coordinator

WORK HOURS: Monday-Friday. In-Person. 20 hours of curriculum prep and a 2-hour orientation required. Two-session commitment minimum. Local applicants are preferred.

COMPENSATION: $600/session (half-days)

$1,200/session (full-days)

ABOUT US: Austin Film Festival (AFF) furthers the art and craft of filmmaking by inspiring and championing the work of screenwriters, filmmakers, and all artists who use the language of film, television, theatre, and new media to tell a story. AFF is dedicated to providing unique cultural events and services, enhancing public awareness and participation and encouraging long lasting community partnerships. The Austin Film Festival is a not-for-profit 501c3 corporation.

JOB DESCRIPTION: Austin Film Festival is seeking in-person instructors for its upcoming 23rd Annual Summer Film Camp. Classes are offered for age groups 9-18 and run in weeklong half-day and full-day sessions. Class times vary depending on class topics. Summer Film Camp runs from June 2nd through July 25th. Instructors are responsible for the planning and the supervision of daily camp activities, including carrying out the approved AFF curriculum for their assigned class. Instructors will need to provide information for a background check.

We are seeking instructors for the following sessions:

· June 2nd – 6th

· June 9th – 13th

· June 16th – 20th

· June 30th – July 3rd

· July 7th – 11th

· July 14th – 18^th

· July 21st – 25th

RESPONSIBILITIES: The responsibilities of Summer Camp instructors include the following:

• Create class materials that follow and adhere to the class curriculum.

• Attend a 2-hour orientation.

• Maintain a daily schedule based on class curriculum.

• Complete all class film projects prior to the end of each camp session.

• Work closely with the Summer Film Camp Director and Summer Camp Coordinator to give constant updates on class progress, issues, etc.

• Provide direct supervision, discipline, and rule enforcement for the safety of all campers.

• Communicate and work cooperatively with parents, children, and staff.

• Notify Executive Director and Summer Film Camp Director of all safety issues in a timely manner and in writing.

• Attend and assists with Summer Film Camp Showcase.

• Keep the integrity and mission statement of Austin Film Festival.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s Degree (preferably in film) from an Accredited University required.

• A background in animation (for Claymation Creations Camp).

• A background in horror/ sci-fi (for Filmmaking 101: Horror/ Sci-fi Camp and Script-to-Screen).

• A background in comedy (for Script-to-Screen).

• Knowledge of Adobe Premiere editing software, cameras, and other multimedia equipment.

• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

• Ability to prioritize constant changes and multi-task.

• Excellent interpersonal skills and time management skills.

• Ability to maintain high standards of professionalism.

• A reliable mode of transportation is preferred.

• Previous teaching experience with children/students.
