Job purpose

Seeking Actors Equity (AEA) stage managers and assistant stage managers for Denver Center's 2025-26 Season. Local and out of town stage managers are encouraged to submit.

AEA Stage Managers and Assistant Stage Managers are a member of the DCPA-Theatre Company’s Stage Management team and work closely with the Stage Management Supervisor to execute all stage managerial duties for individual productions with DCPA-Theatre Company, Theatre for Young Audiences (TYA), and Off-Center. The Stage Manager will work closely with producers, directors, designers, technicians, and actors on assigned productions and is fundamental in relaying information to Theatre Company’s Artistic and Production leadership, teams and shops. All employees are expected to model and champion the DCPA’s core values of artistic excellence, community, equity, diversity and inclusion, and fiscal responsibility.

The DCPA season will be announced at a later date.


Duties and responsibilities

  • Maintain an atmosphere of empathy, compassion and inclusiveness in leadership
  • Maintain all rehearsal scheduling, following LORT/AEA work rules and hours
  • Plans and publishes schedule overviews for rehearsals, technical rehearsals, and performances
  • Attend and manage all rehearsals and performances
  • Create and distribute rehearsal and performance notes
  • Serve as the point person for communication with actors, producers, directors, designers, production department heads, and production management
  • Create and keep archival records of shows (prompt book, etc.)
  • Attend all production meetings
  • Create and distribute show-specific paperwork
  • Direct and assist stage crew in show operation, including cue calling or backstage tracks.
  • Other duties as assigned


Qualifications

  • At least 3 years of AEA Stage Management experience in operations of similar size and scope preferred.
  • Member in good standing with Actors’ Equity Association, or willing to join the union.
  • Ability to maintain artistic direction throughout performances, including rehearse understudies or replacements.
  • Ability to run an effective rehearsal room.
  • Capacity to solve problems and engage in creative thinking to overcome challenges.
  • Maturity and understanding of the artistic process.
  • Ability to work on a team, including excellent diplomatic and interpersonal skills.
  • Well organized, adaptable and proactive.
  • Demonstrates strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Fundamental understanding of standard theatrical production practices
  • Ability to remain, calm, professional and positive when working under pressure.
  • Proficiency with Windows and Microsoft Office 365 preferred


Working conditions

This is a dynamic position that requires working in a variety of different environments which may include: rehearsal studios, office space and traditional theatre space (onstage, in house, backstage). Position requires a flexible schedule, including periodic long hours, irregular hours, nights, weekends, and holidays as required. May be asked to lift up to 40 pounds.


Physical requirements

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to communicate. The employee frequently is required to use hands or fingers to handle or feel objects, tools or controls. The employee may be asked to stand; walk; sit; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment varies from moderate to loud.


Direct Reports

No direct reports, but this position is expected to drive certain tasks forward, requiring some level of supervision including Stage Management Apprentices.


Compensation

LORT B Non-Rep Weekly Rate: SM: $1,364.00; ASM: $1,159.00
LORT C Non-Rep Weekly Rate: SM: $1,259.00; ASM: $1,164.00
LORT D Non-Rep Weekly Rate: SM: $1,035.00; ASM: $850.00
Theater for Young Audiences (TYA) Weekly Rate: SM $1,378.00; ASM: $1,171.00
