This is an entry-mid level hybrid broadcast engineer and production assistant role. This role will include operating production equipment for studio and remote live broadcast content, pre and postproduction of video content, and ensuring the health and maintenance of the broadcast equipment systems.

For the broadcast engineer aspect, the candidate will execute equipment maintenance projects, both planned and unplanned. This candidate would oversee maintenance and updates of our in-studio and remote broadcast systems. The candidate will work in coordination with the production team, engineering department, and IT department in identifying and executing projects. When troubleshooting, the candidate will evaluate the risks with efficiency to properly gauge the optimum solution and act on what can be solved immediately and determine what solutions need to be elevated to higher level staff.

On the production side, a successful candidate will have a basic background in videography, camera operations, and audio. The candidate should be able to assist in productions by building cameras, running audio, preforming grip/lighting tasks, etc. An ideal candidate would have experience with video editing programs including Final Cut Pro and Adobe Premier with the ability to perform basic edits.

The Broadcast Engineer/Video Production Specialist should have a strong background in technical problem-solving skills to support operations when systemic problems arise, and proactively, when invention and efficiency can be implemented to solve problems before they occur. Candidates should demonstrate technical acuity, strong organizational and interpersonal skills, and the ability to keep calm, focused and confident in a production environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain a wide range of professional video production and broadcast equipment.
  • Select, organize, and test equipment ahead of events, and inventory, check, and organize equipment after events.
  • Perform regular engineering tasks such as running cables, building and terminating audio/video cables, and assist in the design and build of new technical systems.
  • Prepare and execute technical setups for remote productions with flexibility and understanding of each individual production’s needs.
  • Operate professional video cameras, lenses, and other equipment to capture high-quality footage. Knowledge of DLSR/Mirrorless cameras as well as broadcast/ENG style cameras preferred.
  • Ensure proper lighting, sound, and composition across productions.
  • Assist in post-production tasks including file organization, editing, color correction, audio mixing and adding visual effects or graphics when necessary.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in videography and video editing.
  • Capable to lift broadcast equipment and rigging.

Education

Bachelor's degree in engineering/IT, film production, videography, or a related field is preferred.

Knowledge and Skills

  • 3-5 years live studio and remote television broadcast experience.
  • Strong technical background and ability to learn new systems and software quickly.
  • The ideal candidate would have hands-on experience with broadcast camera control, video and audio routing, communication systems (clear-com), and basic networking.
  • Understanding of broadcast industry standards and best practices.
  • Familiarity with various equipment including broadcast/ENG cameras, video switchers, DSLR/mirrorless cameras, manual lens, audio equipment, network infrastructure, etc.
  • Good understanding of color, exposure, lighting, composition, and camera techniques.
  • Basic knowledge of video editing software including Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to travel for on-location shoots when required. Valid drivers license required. Ability to drive large non-CDL vehicles preferred.
