Royalty Analyst (Music)

Position: Account Manager

Location: Beverly Hills, CA (Hybrid Work Option Available)

Salary Range: $75,000-85,000 per year based on experience

What You’ll Do:

You will be responsible for ensuring accurate processing, analysis, and reporting of royalty data from multiple revenue streams, including digital streaming, mechanical, performance, and synchronization. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in financial data management, proficiency in Excel, and experience in royalty accounting systems. The Music Royalty Analyst will play a crucial role in ensuring that artists, songwriters, publishers, and labels receive accurate and timely royalty payments. This position requires an understanding of music licensing agreements, copyright regulations, and industry standards related to royalty distributions.

Key Responsibilities:
Royalty Accounting & Reporting:

• Review, process, and analyze royalty statements from record labels, streaming services, and other revenue sources.

• Ensure accurate calculation and distribution of royalties to artists, composers, producers, and other stakeholders.

• Maintain and update royalty databases and accounting systems.

• Reconcile royalty income with financial records and contracts, ensuring compliance with contractual obligations

Financial Analysis & Compliance:

• Review contracts to ensure royalty payments align with licensing agreements.

• Identify and investigate discrepancies in royalty payments and reporting.

• Assist in royalty audits and compliance reviews for clients.

• Ensure adherence to industry regulations, including copyright laws and PRO (Performance Rights Organizations) guidelines.

Client Support & Advisory:

• Provide financial insights on royalty revenue trends and forecasting.

• Communicate with record labels, publishers, PROs (ASCAP, BMI, SESAC), and digital streaming platforms regarding royalty payments.

• Support tax and compliance matters related to royalty income.

Qualifications & Requirements:
Education & Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.

• 2+ years of experience in royalty accounting, financial analysis, or auditing within the music industry.

• Experience working with artists, record labels, music publishers, or PROs preferred.

Skills & Competencies:

• Strong understanding of music industry royalty structures (mechanical, performance, sync, digital streaming).

• Proficiency in accounting and royalty tracking software (e.g., Music Maestro, Vistex, Counterpoint, SAP).

• Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, V-Lookups, conditional formatting, data visualization) and experience with financial reporting tools.

• Ability to analyze and interpret music contracts and licensing agreements.

• Excellent communication skills for client interactions and industry negotiations.

• Excellent attention to detail, problem-solving and ability to work with large datasets.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with music industry revenue models, including streaming services like Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube.

• Understanding of copyright laws, publishing rights, and licensing agreements.

• Familiarity with ASC 606 (Revenue Recognition) as it applies to royalties.
