NewsNation, is seeking a talented Broadcast Lighting Technician to seamlessly integrate innovative lighting designs into live and pre-recorded broadcast productions for our D.C. Bureau. The ideal candidate will have a comprehensive understanding of lighting technology and creative design and can work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. This is an exciting opportunity for a highly creative individual to display their expertise in the world of broadcast productions.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Lighting Implementation:
  • Execute lighting designs for distinct types of productions including news programs, talk shows, sports broadcasts, and special events.
  • Collaborate closely with directors, producers, set designers, and camera operators to ensure lighting designs meet production needs and enhance the overall visual aesthetics of the broadcast.
2. Technical Proficiency:
Operate and maintain lighting equipment including fixtures, consoles, dimmers, and control systems.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve any technical issues related to lighting setups quickly and efficiently to avoid disruption during live broadcasts.
3. Creative Collaboration:
  • Work with the creative team to understand the vision and requirements for each production.
  • Offer innovative solutions and suggestions to enhance visual storytelling through effective lighting.
4. Production Management:
  • Manage and oversee the setup, rigging, and striking of lighting equipment for broadcasts.
  • Ensure all lighting setups comply with safety regulations and production standards.
5. Continual Improvement:
  • Stay updated with the latest industry trends, technologies, and best practices in broadcast lighting.
  • Implement new techniques and technologies to continually improve the quality and creativity of lighting designs.
Qualifications:
  • Proven experience as a Lighting Technician or similar role in broadcast production.
  • Strong portfolio highlighting past broadcast lighting designs.
  • Proficiency with lighting control consoles and software (e.g., MA Lighting, ETC, Hog).
  • In-depth knowledge of lighting techniques, fixtures, and rigging.
  • Excellent understanding of color theory and its impact on broadcast visual quality.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills.
Preferred:
  • Degree or certification in Theater Arts, Film, Broadcast Production, or a related field.
  • Experience with LED lighting systems and advanced lighting technologies.
  • Basic knowledge of camera operation and video production.

Salary Range - $50,000 - $110,000 Annualized (Based on experience)
