Job Summary/Description:

WMC - Action News 5 is hiring an Executive Producer to lead a team of producers to deliver promotable, compelling, and well-written newscasts.

This Executive Producer will lead a team of producers to deliver promotable, compelling, and well-written newscasts. Our nightside EP will work closely with the news managers to develop and implement strategies to improve the product and raise ratings while managing resources. In addition, the successful candidate will: exercise strong news judgment review newscast rundowns and approve scripts with an eye towards accuracy and promotable content, motivate staff, and execute news strategies and action plans. As a mentor and coach, you will work with multi-media reporters/photographers to determine the direction of stories and expectations while working with the assignment desk on coverage and assignment of reporters and crews. You will collaborate with producers on rundowns, story selection, formats, graphic elements, and pace and flow of newscasts. The EP will also help supervise long-term planning for sweeps and special events. You will occasionally fill-in line producer for newscasts during vacation periods or illness. You should have an awareness and ability to post news stories to our website, apps, and social media platforms if our digital needs assistance.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communication, or related field
  • Prior experience as a line producer
  • Prior news management experience
  • Strong writing and organization skills
  • People skills and verbal as well as written communication skills
  • Strong news background with the ability to make news judgments in pressure situations.
