Job Description
SUMMARY:
Reporting to the General Manager, Digital Platforms, SVP, Digital Creative and Editorial will lead all creative and editorial efforts across A+E Networks’ Digital Content & Platforms, including O&O properties (websites and apps) and social platforms (including YouTube). This role oversees the development of original content, repurposing existing library content, and ensuring all digital outputs align with A+E's brand vision, tone, and objectives. The SVP’s primary responsibility is to ensure that A+E Networks’ digital creative, content and editorial aligns with its business objectives and brand/genre strategies, that it engages audiences, and achieves goals in the digital space to meaningfully contribute to company EBIT over the next three years and beyond.
LEADERSHIP & MANAGEMENT:
The SVP will be responsible for setting creative and editorial direction, managing both daily and long-term goals, and overseeing staff and work schedules. They will inspire, motivate, and mentor their team, setting clear daily and annual objectives and goals and fostering accountability for delivering results. They will have an aptitude for operating within both an entrepreneurial and corporate culture and have a clear understanding of the evolving landscape, especially as it relates to media/entertainment, technology and digital media, and an ability to identify opportunistic beats and trends for coverage, features and experimentation. The SVP will also manage resource allocation and ensure the timely completion of initiatives and projects.
CONTENT CREATION & PLATFORM MANAGEMENT:
The SVP will lead cross-functional, multi-disciplinary teams in creating, commissioning, and managing digital content. This includes original content development and packaging of A+E's existing content across platforms. The role involves driving creative and editorial strategy that aligns with brand goals and ensures consistent audience engagement across all digital platforms. Additionally, the SVP will allocate resources to meet the demands of new platform launches and initiatives. The SVP will work in close coordination with other creative/brand and digital leadership and colleagues to develop, allocate and implement innovative creative direction and narratives and ensure on-time completion of initiatives, plans and projects.
COLLABORATION & COORDINATION:
The SVP will work closely with other departments to ensure cohesive and aligned content strategies, including Strategy & Product, Social, Programming, Studios, GTMO, PR/Comms, Marketing, and Research. This collaboration is key to delivering optimal outcomes for both internal and external stakeholders and maintaining brand continuity across all digital channels.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
CREATIVE VISION
  • As the in-house creative visionary for digital, the SVP ensures best-in-class creative, editorial, and digital design strategies that deliver against business goals; they are responsible for conceiving and delivering big ideas that work with our traditional media properties (TV) and can stand-alone.
  • Introduces and champions new approaches, leading executions to embolden our platforms and audience perceptions while always maintaining the highest level of standards during all phases and stages of the process, supporting creative and commercial efforts for engagement monetization and in alignment with the organizational goals and values.
  • Directs A+E Networks’ digital editorial strategy, overseeing a team of staff writers, editors, producers, editors to publish daily and longer-lead content, features, that generates growth, predictable traffic and engagement and maximizes buzz.
  • Oversee the development and execution of a variety of content/editorial types/genres across multiple platforms and audiences; establish groundbreaking content initiatives and collaborate with Product and Creative to maximize the execution, expression and impact.
  • Utilizes, monitors and analyzes content data and insights to implement new editorial strategies and tactics across key genres and their core brand offerings (SEO, audience development, enhanced content types, engagement) in an effort to grow and strengthen the O&O platforms (and ultimately the market demand).
  • Establishes Editorial voices, pillars and calendars (in-sync with Social), including digital-first editorial programs for sponsorship and partners with commercial teams on go-to-market messaging; oversee the development of editorial guides, processes, policies, and best practices.
CREATIVE/CONTENT STRATEGY AND AUDIENCE ALIGNMENT
  • Develops and communicates a comprehensive digital creative strategy across multiple genres/brands for a variety of form-factors and modalities that aligns with the brand's objectives and target audience.
  • Utilizes data and analytics to inform creative strategies, adjusting based on user behavior and performance metrics—working with Research, Marketing, Sales and other teams to best understand need states
CREATIVE CONCEPTING AND EXECUTION
  • Generates innovative digital concepts and ideas for websites, apps, social media, and other digital platforms, always maintaining the highest creative standards for all digital output.
  • Oversees two functional areas of Creative:
    • Digital Design: Oversees creation of user-friendly, visually appealing digital interfaces (UX) that provides a seamless user experience.
    • Video Creative: Development of cohesive and entertaining video storytelling utilizing existing (library/current programming) and original content.
  • Ensures digital content—e.g., graphics, videos, slideshows, copy layouts and other features
  • -is engaging and on-brand.
  • Manages the entire digital creative process, from concept to execution and ensures projects are completed successfully, on schedule and on budget, working closely with Operational and Finance counterparts.
  • Collaborates with Sales teams to understand client need and their digital goals/expectations, presenting creative concepts and solutions; actively participates in RFP processes.
CROSS-COLLABORATION
  • Communicate effectively with all stakeholders, including senior management, to share editorial strategies, goals, and performance metrics.
    • Closely collaborates with Social, Programming, Research, and Marketing teams to ensure optimization of all O&O platforms for audience development, referral traffic, and brand awareness.
    • Partners with sales teams to build programs for sponsorship and aligns on content/editorial priorities based on market demand/opportunity, understands client needs and their digital goals/expectations, presenting creative concepts and solutions; participates in RFP processes as needed; maximizes opportunities with licensing, e-commerce, to build traffic and awareness.
    • Works with IT/Product and Creative teams to develop high-quality, digitally innovative and engaging features.
    • Collaborates with Programming and Studios on content opportunities for digital editorial and aligns with linear brand leads on voice/tone—understanding these are differing audiences and needs.
ACCURACY AND STANDARDS
  • Generates innovative editorial concepts and ideas for websites, apps, social media, and other digital platforms, always maintaining the highest standards for all digital output.
  • Implements and maintains editorial standards—ensures processes and product for editorial content meets the highest quality standards, is engaging, on-brand, well-researched, factually and grammatically accurate and legally sound.
  • Oversees management of the entire digital editorial process, from concept to execution and ensures projects are completed successfully, on schedule and on budget, working closely with Operational and Finance counterparts.

  • Develops and articulates key goals and objectives for the Content/Editorial team and is responsible for the management, performance and growth of staff.
  • Makes critical decisions about staffing and workflow, with an eye towards what is needed today and what needs may surface tomorrow, building both a high-functioning, successful team and a workplace that gives them opportunities for career enrichment and development.
  • Evaluates, recommends, and manages the content/editorial budget, including resourcing needs/onboarding new resources and managing run rates; develops team members of differing levels. Prioritizes and adjusts team assignments, as needed, to new opportunities with a proactive mindset.
  • Able to adapt and complete with new/evolving tasks and initiatives that can change as the industry/ecosystem shifts.
  • Thinks at an enterprise-level to make decisions and recommendations, considers entire organization (vs. only theirs).
  • Represents the company in meetings with clients, partners, agencies and at events.
  • Stays up to date with the latest technology and best practices to enhance editorial product.
BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, liberal arts, or other equivalent in relevant area.
  • At least 10 years of experience building high performing teams by promoting values, as well as coaching and mentoring; leadership skills, including the ability to inspire and manage a team of 10+ in multiple markets/workforce types (e.g., hybrid, remote, etc.), in a deadline-driven environment.
  • At least 10 years in progressive digital creative and content/editorial, and progressive management experience with a track record of delivering results.
  • Strong editing and writing skills, with an eye for detail and an understanding of various content formats and genres
  • Working proficiency in creative software (e.g., Adobe Creative Cloud); understanding of web design and development tools and languages (e.g., HTML, CSS, JavaScript); experience with data tools (e.g., Google/Adobe Analytics) familiarity with SEO best practices and content analytics tools (e.g., Google/Adobe Analytics)

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:
  • Deep understanding of digital media content and creative strategies and platforms.
  • Excellent editorial, strategic, and creative skills, with deep knowledge of the content creation process.
  • Proven track record of managing, supporting, and executing creative solutions (UX) in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment ideally in a consumer marketplace and in ad-supported models, collaborating with sales/revenue partners/counterparts.
  • Excellent interpersonal, presentation and communication skills and proven ability to work effectively and diplomatically with all organizational levels, effective conflict resolution and problem-solving skills.
  • High level of discretion, integrity, judgment, responsiveness, personal initiative and ability to be objective.
  • Familiarity with CMS platforms (e.g., WordPress, Drupal)
  • Experience with data tools (e.g., Google/Adobe Analytics)
Compensation
Annual Pay Range: $272,113 - $326,536
Annual Incentive Target: 35.00%

The annual/hourly
pay range displayed serves as a good faith estimate of the
minimum and maximum base pay range for this role. Compensation for the role will
be based on a number of different factors such as a candidate’s qualifications, skills,
