POSITION: HEAD OF PRODUCING
DEPARTMENT: AFI CONSERVATORY
LOCATION: LOS ANGELES CAMPUS
ROLE OVERVIEW: We seek an accomplished industry producer to lead AFI's prestigious Producing discipline, shaping the next generation of creative producers. The ideal candidate brings extensive hands-on producing experience, deep industry connections, and a vision for preparing AFI Conservatory students – our Fellows – for the evolving entertainment landscape.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Industry Leadership & Innovation
- Drive curriculum innovation based on current industry practices and emerging trends
- Leverage industry relationships to create opportunities for Fellows
- Ensure Fellows gain practical experience with cutting-edge production tools and technologies
- Foster partnerships with studios, production companies, and industry leaders
- Recruit and retain faculty for the discipline
Creative & Educational Leadership
- Guide Fellows through the complete cycle of producing, from identifying I.P. to development through distribution
- Oversee thesis production processes and portfolio and mentor Fellows in their creative growth
- Lead a team of working industry professionals serving as faculty
- Shape curriculum to reflect current market demands and industry best practices
- Foster broad aray of voices and perspectives in storytelling and production approaches
- Teach a minimum of one class a semester
- Oversee admissions for the discipline
- Oversee the review and evaluation of Fellows as they progress through the program
Program Development
- Evolve the producing program to reflect industry changes and opportunities
- Collaborate with other disciplines to strengthen cross-departmental production experiences
- Identify and implement emerging technologies and methodologies relevant to modern producing
- Advise on initiatives that connect Fellows with industry opportunities
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
- Significant producing credits and current industry activity
- Extensive relationships within the entertainment industry
- Demonstrated success in developing and mentoring emerging talent
- Strong track record of innovative producing across various formats and platforms
- Deep understanding of current production methodologies and business models
- Bachelor’s degree – or similar credential – required
Preferred:
- M.F.A. in Producing or related field
- Experience teaching at the graduate level
- History of successful collaboration with creative teams
- Recognition from industry peers for producing work
This is a twelve-month position, working primarily in-person on the AFI campus in Los Angeles, and reporting to the Dean of the AFI Conservatory. The role requires active engagement with the industry while leading the producing discipline.
Salary: $125,000 - $150,000
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $125,000.00 - $150,000.00 per year
