Job Summary: The Community Segment Booking Producer is responsible for developing and coordinating community-focused segments for various newscasts. This role involves identifying, booking, and preparing guests who can provide valuable insights and stories that resonate with the local audience. This person will have a deep understanding of the Oklahoma community, excellent communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. You will be responsible for scheduling guests and writing scripts for these live segments, as well as shooting these segments off-the-shoulder and/or with a tripod.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain a schedule of live guests and content to be featured daily in our 8am newscast and others
  • Contact, book, and coordinate guests for live and pre-recorded segments, ensuring they are prepared and informed about the shows format and content.
  • Design graphics, coordinate with production team and prepare other elements for segments
  • Shoot 8am live segments with ENG camera either off-the-shoulder or using a tripod
  • Coordinate guest arrival and preparation for the segment, including placing microphones on guests
  • Providing live technical direction and reorganization, when necessary, by communicating with the director. Communicating clearly to the anchors through IFB.
  • Responsible for form, organization, coordination with other departments, writing, timing, and distribution of final scripts.
  • Promote and execute the strategic plan for the company.
  • Identify and research potential guests for community segments, focusing on individuals and organizations that have a significant impact on the local community.
  • Collaborate with producers and other newsroom staff to develop segment ideas that align with the stations goals and audience interests.
  • Maintain a diverse and updated calendar of potential guests, including experts, community leaders, and local personalities.
  • Coordinate logistics for guest appearances, on-site assistance, and any necessary preparations.
  • Write and prepare segment scripts, questions, and background information for hosts and guests.
  • Monitor current events, community trends, and audience feedback to continually improve segment content and relevance.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with local organizations, businesses, and community leaders to facilitate future bookings and collaborations.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned, including driving an automobile for company business.

Job Schedule: This is a full-time position primarilyworking 40 hours per week. You may also be called upon at times to fill in other hours and days of the week to help cover vacations, illnesses, or special projects/events. This position is not eligible to work remotely.

Skills and Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree in Journalism, Communications, Marketing or related field. Related experience will be evaluated and may be substituted as years of education.
  • 1-2 years experience preferred. 1 year of progressively responsible experience in a television newsroom preferred.
  • Knowledge of journalistic and television production standards and ability to establish and work within program format are necessary.
  • Accurate and comprehensive writing skills as well as good communication and organization skills.
  • Ability to make quick and appropriate decisions and gain the cooperation of others.
  • Knowledge of video cameras, non-linear video editing and standards of shooting for television.
  • Knowledge of personal computers and ability to learn new systems.
  • Strong understanding of the Oklahoma community and local issues.
  • Ability to manage multiple bookings and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong research skills and attention to detail.
  • Creative thinking and the ability to develop compelling and relevant segment ideas.
  • Link of work and writing samples required.
  • Must have, or be able to obtain, a valid Oklahoma drivers license and have a driving record acceptable to the company.
