Be Part of the Story as the Senior Character Artist in the Character Art Global Center of Excellence. This role is responsible for producing character artwork for two-dimensional and three-dimensional product applications, across all of The Walt Disney Company’s franchises, for both Owned & Operated as well as Licensed products. The artist handles projects at all levels of complexity, works under general supervision, and meets deadlines under pressure while maintaining high-quality standards.

Applicants Must Submit a Portfolio Showcasing: Full scope of artwork, sketching, finished pieces, artwork that shows process, any digital capabilities (inking, rendering).

This is a Full Time role.

This role reports to the Senior Manager of Character Art.

What You Will Do:

  • Development of Character Art for style guides and portfolios across multiple properties and cross divisions.

  • Ideas generation for Franchise Expansion.

  • Art style/new technique development to coordinate with trends in the marketplace.

  • Attendance at key shows/exhibitions to keep abreast of trends and product development techniques in the marketplace.

  • Contribute to new product ideas and participate in brainstorming sessions.

  • Responsible for maintaining high character art standards for the region.

  • Develop a strong character art community across Global Product Creation.

  • Understand Disney characters and Disney storytelling and how they translate into products.

  • Fresh and inventive creative thinker.

  • Awareness of marketplace trends.

  • Able to present creative concepts in both formal and informal settings.

  • Strong team player.

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience

  • 2+ years of related work experience in graphic design, character art illustration, or merchandise design.

  • Understand the principles of cartooning and cartoon animation.

  • Exposure to multiple mediums (sculpting, painting, and drawing).

  • Extensive knowledge of Character Art.

  • Strong traditional and digital drawing skills, as well as concepting skills.

  • Pro-active / Can-do attitude.

  • Strong creative computer skills (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Creative Suite, Keynote).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in drawing Disney Characters in both on-model and stylized executions.

  • Ability and specialized skill in drawing the Disney Princess Characters on-model.

The hiring range for this position in Glendale, CA is $85,700 to $114,900 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
