Description
The School of Film and Media Studies at Purchase College seeks applications for an Associate Professor of Film in tenure track line beginning Fall 2025. Salary commensurate with experience.

Created over fifty years ago, the Film BFA at Purchase College is an intensive program requiring a high level of commitment and focus from its students. The Film Conservatory houses an array of professional equipment, soundstages and facilities including a state-of-the-art Center for Media, Film and Theater building. Students are required to take classes in screenwriting, editing, cinematography, film production and cinema studies; immerse themselves in yearlong courses in directing both narrative and documentary films; and annually present their work to be promoted to the next level. The Conservatory prides itself in fostering uniquely creative voices in its graduates, whose work has been recognized with Emmys, Oscars and awards at major film festivals including Sundance, Tribeca, Cannes and Toronto.

The successful candidate will assume a primary leadership role in shaping the future of the Film Conservatory. Responsibilities include teaching 6 classes and service obligations: advising, admissions consultation, and end of year student reviews. Additional responsibilities include securing industry guests for student colloquiums, and media and donor outreach.

Qualifications
The candidate should demonstrate a commitment to student learning, success, liberal education and have shown considerable administrative experience within a similar type of conservatory program. The BFA Film faculty is comprised of artists, filmmakers and scholars actively working in their respective fields. Therefore, the ideal candidate will also have recognized professional credits directing fiction or nonfiction feature film and/or television as well as expertise in related disciplines such as screenwriting, cinematography, editing, or producing. Preference will be given to candidates with a record of teaching excellence in higher education and who have an MFA and/or other terminal degree in a media-related discipline, and/or equivalent professional experience. A history of film festival participation and/or awards is relevant.
