Job Description
WZZM, the TEGNA-owned ABC affiliate in Grand Rapids, Michigan is seeking a Morning Executive Producer to oversee our growing morning show. The perfect candidate will possess prior TV leadership experience, a commitment to success, and a desire to mentor and lead our team of producers, anchors, reporters, photographers and digital producers. We focus on breaking news and severe weather coverage while balancing impactful coverage of our communities. We seek a leader who shares this ambition. As the executive producer, you will manage breaking news, daily news coverage and special projects.
Responsibilities:
- Aggressively coordinates breaking news and severe weather on all platforms.
- Coordinates and oversees daily newsgathering efforts.
- Oversees content in morning newscasts.
- Assigns daily stories and projects to reporters, anchors, photographers, and digital team and monitors the progress of story development.
- Works with Producers to craft unique, relevant content based on the news of the day for newscasts and digital
- Focuses on accuracy and strong writing in our scripts, copy editing and closely working with reporters and producers to create accurate, informative, and engaging content.
- Approves all on-air scripts and rundowns prior to news broadcasts.
- Champions story planning and works with entire team to produce engaging storytelling through strong writing, visuals, use of sound, graphics, and other production techniques.
- Participates in the newsroom editorial meetings to make editorial decisions.
- Works with management team on developing best practices and innovating our newscasts.
- Collaborates with news team on potential story ideas and planning for both on-air and digital coverage.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in journalism or related field
- Prior industry experience as an executive producer, news producer and as a newsroom leader.
- Track record of quality journalism, high integrity, and ethical decision-making
- Passion for growing journalists and fostering a creative, positive, and collaborative newsroom
- Ability to calmly handle live, breaking news, and changing events
- Strong organization, planning skills and the ability to work under constant time-sensitive deadlines
- Knowledge of AP ENPS, Edius, photojournalism, video editing, and content management systems a plus
