About KMOV:

First Alert Four in St. Louis is looking for an experienced multiplatform journalist to join our award-winning investigative team and make a difference in our community. KMOV-TV is the most watched station in Missouri and Southern Illinois, reaching nearly 4 million news users on-air and online on a weekly basis. Job Summary/Description:

First Alert Four in St. Louis is looking for an experienced multiplatform journalist to join our award-winning investigative team and make a difference in our community.

Duties and responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • The successful candidate will research, develop, write, and present investigative news stories on a long and short-term basis, as well as contribute research and analysis on major breaking news events
  • The reporter will work with the special projects team as well as station management and legal department to conceptualize and produce content
  • Serve the St. Louis region through meaningful, compelling investigative journalism that impacts real people in their everyday lives and provides solutions to help people and communities overcome challenges
  • Create high-quality investigative content for broadcast, digital, streaming, and social media platforms
  • Must manage multiple projects simultaneously; expect to publish new content 1-2x per week and sometimes daily.
  • Use creative storytelling techniques to make complex issues digestible for the audience
  • Collaborate with the investigative team and news managers to build and evolve the station's investigative brand
  • Cultivate a network of sources
  • Provide investigative support as needed for daily news content

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism or related field
  • Minimum of two years experience working as an investigative reporter or four years as a general assignment reporter with a demonstrated history of turning investigative stories
  • Extensive experience delivering engaging live content in the studio and in the field
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Proven track record of generating meaningful investigative storylines and following through to achieve tangible results
  • Proficiency with investigative tools including, but not limited to, public records, data analysis, and source-development
  • Excellent time management, communication, and writing skills (broadcast and AP style)
  • Understanding of computer-assisted reporting and working with database and spreadsheet programs
  • Experience working with hidden cameras
