Job Summary:

20th Television is seeking a qualified candidate for SVP, Comedy Development to oversee the Comedy Development team, slate of projects and lead day-to-day operations.  In this role, the person will represent 20th TV Studio, identify, and develop ideas/concepts and creatively supervise the team while executing the strategic plan for the Studio. They will ensure that the shows are of the highest possible quality with the time and resources available.

Responsibilities:

  • Help develop and then execute the creative strategy as defined by the EVP of Development to grow unique, compelling, and brand-appropriate content.
  • Self-generate, solicit, evaluate, and develop ideas/concepts to make into shows.
  • From a creative standpoint, oversee production of pilots to ensure the integrity of the creative vision.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with established talent (writers, producers, directors, actors, authors, filmmakers, playwrights), identify up-and-coming talent, and actively pursue business with both groups.
  • Spearhead problem solving and crisis management resolution with studio partners and outside producers on all production and programming issues.
  • Provide ongoing guidance and direction to team members.
  • Act as a point of escalation for team members when there are potential problems for their projects.
  • Collaborate with other departments throughout the process (Business Affairs, PR, Marketing, Series, Casting, Music, etc.)
  • Provide notes on cuts, stories, outlines and scripts.
  • Ensure the Studio priorities are in-sync and addressed by the internal partners at the platforms.
  • Represent the department in internal meetings and taskforces to support DEI Initiatives
  • Manage special projects and assignments as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Strategic and creative minded executive with a demonstrated track record of developing scripted series.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the scripted series production process.
  • Knowledge of and interest in 20th Television Studio content and Disney Entertainment Television platforms.
  • Strong existing relationships with production companies, agents, producers, etc.
  • Demonstrated creative and development skills.
  • Self-motivated to develop new ideas.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of leadership.
  • Ability to multitask and manage complex projects.


The hiring range for this position in California is $297,000 to $409,500 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
