What You Will Do
As part of the Character Programs & Development Digital Design team, we collaborate with Digital Sculptors, Materials Teams, and production partners/vendors to help inform production capabilities, limitations and consider the potential cost impact of design, production, and technology choices. The Industrial Design Intern with help build production ready digital assets, technical drawings, and specs of varied products to bring characters to life across all Disney Parks, Resorts & Cruise Ships, worldwide.
Required Qualifications & Skills
Ability to proficiently build/communicate design concepts through 3D design software while showcasing innovative and creative design solutions; strong emphasis on complex CAD surface modeling and design
Ability to process ideas through physical prototyping/mockup creation with strong knowledge of materials, manufacturing processes, and product development methodologies
Effective understanding of the detailed relationship between aesthetics/function and ergonomics, human factors, and user experience
Preferred Qualifications
Proficiency in 3D CAD Software. (e.g. Solidworks, Autodesk Fusion360, Rhino)
Recognizable passion for 3D Printing, model making, Toy Design, 3D scanning, Costume Design, prop making, etc.
Experience with digital sculpting tools (e.g. Zbrush, Blender, Maya)
Collaborative problem solver with the ability to communicate/work with cross-functional teams
Required Materials
A portfolio showcasing successful and diverse design work with evidence of high proficiency in 3D CAD design software
Education
Currently enrolled as a Junior, Senior, recent graduate or Graduate Student with a BS, BFA, BA, Masters Degree in: Industrial Design, Product Design, Toy Design, Themed Entertainment Design, Animatronics or Mechanical Engineering
Candidates for this opportunity MUST meet all of the below requirements
Be enrolled in an accredited college/university taking at least one class in the semester/quarter (spring/fall) prior to participation in the internship program OR must have graduated from a college/university within 6 months at time of application posting OR currently participating in a Disney College Program or Disney Internship
Be at least 18 years of age
Possess unrestricted work authorization
Have not completed one year of continual employment on a Disney internship or Disney College Program
Adhere to The Disney Look appearance guidelines
Available to work full-time hours (approximately 40 hours per week) for the duration of the internship
Able to provide own housing for the duration of the internship program in the Orlando Florida area and have reliable transportation to/from work
