Position Summary

UNC Asheville athletics is seeking a Director of Broadcast and Creative Production that will be responsible for managing all aspects of video operations to ensure the delivery of quality live streaming video productions for ESPN and WLOS broadcasts in collaboration with the Athletics External Relations office. The position will direct the broadcast by providing leadership and directing all activities and personnel engaged in operating, maintaining, and programming the audio and video systems within the sports arena for home athletic events while ensuring live video feed to ESPN remains uninterrupted. This position will serve as a liaison to Big South Conference and ESPN to fulfill video requests used for broadcast and for distribution on various platforms including social media and on the official athletics website. This position must ensure that all video productions adhere to rules and regulations as set forth by Big South Conference, ESPN and UNC Asheville athletics while also developing concepts and story lines for videos to be used at various UNC Asheville athletic events.
The position will work within the framework of the university’s and athletics department’s strategic plans to coordinate and stream selected UNC Asheville home athletic events for multiple sports teams over the course of the athletic year as well as help provide video highlights with the Athletic Communications Team. This position will focus on the live video production of UNC Asheville’s home athletic events for multiple sport programs. This individual will help successfully integrate the UNC Asheville athletic product into the ESPN+ platform and be the direct contact for live productions on all ESPN and WLOS broadcasts.
In addition, this position along with the External Relations office will direct all activities and personnel engaged in the creation of video content used in the development of marketing and promotional videos to be utilized via social media, digital media, official athletics website and various other avenues. This position will develop a content schedule each week in collaboration with the Athletic Communications Team.
This is a highly visible and responsible position that requires a detailed, creative thinking and technical decision-making individual who will work closely with partnering organizations and various outlets to enhance and promote the UNC Asheville Athletics brand and programs.

Minimum Education/Experience/Skills
High school diploma or equivalency and four years of progressive experience in a broadcast television, radio and emerging media environment, of which one year is supervisory; or equivalent combination of training and experience.

Preferred Education/Experience/Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in broadcast communications, journalism, graphic design, sports management and/or new media is preferred. A qualified candidate with another degree may also be considered.
  • Effective communication skills both oral and written
  • Ability and willingness to work evening and weekends
  • A past history of working with ESPN is also a plus.
  • Previous knowledge of video streaming and new media platforms is encouraged.
  • Prior work and knowledge of a NewTek Tricaster, Adobe Premiere and/or Final Cut, Adobe After Effects and various media encoders is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of intercollegiate athletics and live sports production.

Work Schedule and Hours
Flexible hours to include nights and weekend. This position requires some travel and night, weekend, and holiday hours.
