Reporting to the Director and President of the Academy Museum, the Director, Community and Impact will oversee and advance the Academy’s vision for community engagement and impact by developing new processes, establishing partnerships, leading, monitoring and evaluating cross-departmental initiatives. You will build and sustain relationships with community members, leaders, and other non-profit organizations; with a focus to build cultural participation, broaden and diversify museum audiences, and foster cultural relevancy with Los Angeles. As the lead strategist for community impact, you will manage and lead the Museum’s community engagement initiatives and team.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and manage creative and impactful community partnerships, programs and events that represent the museum favorably and make positive and measurable contributions to the community.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships and partnerships with community members, key community constituencies and organizations, as well as manage relationships with key institutions and civic leaders, with a focus to prioritize local repeat audiences.
  • Work collaboratively with departments across the organization on community-related projects.
  • Develop, measure, and report data analysis for community impact including data collection, analysis, metrics, tracking of participants, and generating reports for museum stakeholders, with a focus to track performance and ensure impact among targeted communities.
  • Build relationships and collaborate on values-aligned initiatives with key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proactively attend, participate, and represent the museum at community events and neighborhood meetings in Los Angeles.
  • Engage staff to develop their skills and expertise in community-building practices and projects.
  • Manage and effectively lead the Community Engagement department to ensure engagement initiatives and goals are met.

Position Requirements

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
  • 5+ years’ experience in community relations and community engagement at a non-profit organization or related organization.
  • 5+ years’ experience working collaboratively and leading a team.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse groups and a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Strategic analysis capabilities to leverage research and set measurable goals.
  • Success in working with diverse communities, with the ability to cultivate existing relationships and establish new relationships.
  • Project management and planning skills with the ability to track deadlines and goals.
  • Experience budgeting and tracking spending.

The expected salary for this role is $95,000. The actual base pay offered will be determined on factors such as experience, skills, training, location, certifications, education, and other factors permitted by law. Decisions will be made on a case-by-case basis.
