Scope of Position
Responsible for communications and marketing strategy and management to provide creative solutions and consultation in the effective execution of marketing and communications initiatives for stakeholders.

Position Summary
Designs and creates graphic, animation, visual effects and marketing communication materials that consistently reflect, identify, drive and communicate messages and initiatives in alignment with brand strategy and organizational objectives. Plans, schedules, develops and manages design and/or digital animation projects.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. 0 years of relevant experience required. 0-2 years of relevant experience preferred.

Detailed Position Description
Working collaboratively with the Head of Communications and Marketing, the Design Director, another Graphic Designer and student interns, this team member will perform a wide variety of institutionally aligned design functions in support of the Wexner Center for the Arts’ active programming areas: exhibitions, film/video, performing arts, and learning & public practice, along with the advancement department.

The scope of work includes but is not limited to print publications, electronic communications (including emails), websites, print and digital advertisements, posters, graphic animations for video pieces, video and sound editing, signage, photography, and more. This role must be able to work individually, but also as part of a team under the guidance and supervision of the Design Director. This role requires the ability to manage to brand standards for the Wexner Center for the Arts and The Ohio State University and skillfully conceptualize, evaluate, and communicate design concepts on various projects with in-house clients.

This role must take into consideration research in graphic design history, accessibility, and cultural sensibilities. Participates in meetings with the full Wexner Center communications and marketing team and other center colleagues. Coordinates and supervises projects performed by vendors through the phases of estimation and production, including press checks. Hours vary and may include weekends and evenings in support of events. Successful completion of a background check is required prior to the start date.

Position is a member of the American Federation of State, County,& Municipal Employees Local 322, Ohio Council 8, AFL-CIO.


Required:

  • A degree in graphic design or related required
  • 0-2 years of preferred minimum years of relevant experience
  • Well-versed in Adobe Creative Suite
  • Mac OS platform experience required
  • Prior experience with prioritizing and multiple project schedules
  • Prior experience in streamlining and maintaining design and production processes
  • Ability to identify and interpret graphic design needs and develop creative and responsive design concepts
  • Working knowledge of graphic and web design fundamentals and principles including typography, best practices in print and digital layout, and color theory
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple deadlines
  • Collaborative mindset with an appreciation for being part of a team

Desired:

  • A background or interest in visual arts, film/video, performing arts, community teaching and learning, and/or higher education.
  • 2-4 years of graphic related experience desired

Additional Information

This is a hybrid position. Working 3-days a week on-site is requested (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday) with 2-days flexible remotely. For the right candidate, this schedule may be more flexible around in-person work if they are able to come in for key meetings.

Use of personal vehicle may be required (mileage reimbursed); work hours vary and include evenings, weekends, and possible holidays.

Successful completion of background check prior to start date required.

70% Design: Define goals and requirements, research, conceptualize, sketch, develop, present, and deliver print and digital projects. When directed, manage design projects from start to finish.

20% Work with the Design Director on design strategies for the center. Manage and plan workflow for specific projects, such as posters, digital slide cadence, website graphics, etc.

10% Other duties as assigned. Duties could include serving on cross-departmental teams.
