Summary
The Production Manager’s responsibility is to plan, organize and manage productions (digital, linear, major tentpoles/ live events) throughout the production process and to ensure that content is produced efficiently, on time, within budget and meeting the highest quality standards. The ideal candidate has an in-depth understanding of the full life cycle of content and event creation, a network of contacts in the industry, with acute attention to detail and process. To be successful in this position, the candidate must be able to work with multiple leads to coordinate efforts and meet deadlines. This position requires strong project management skills and the ability to juggle multiple priorities.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Create the production budget, strategy, and deliverables, managing all to budget and within established deadlines.
- Manage overall production schedule and the entire production process including:
- Hire crew and negotiate rates.
- Budget and approve the booking of resources, equipment and suppliers.
- Oversee location bookings, travel and arrange any necessary permissions and risk assessments.
- Ensure timecards are submitted on a timely basis and in accordance with wage and hour policies.
- Manage production operations, related purchase orders, invoices, p-card/petty cash reconciliation and expenses and update the financial forecast weekly.
- Provide Producer and Production Management with update reports on a regular basis.
- Work closely with Finance team to make decisions about equipment use, maintenance, modification and procurement.
- Monitor costs incurred from approved production budget, identify cost variances and recommend budget adjustments as necessary.
- Create crew schedules that ensure optimum and efficient staffing levels.
- Ensure that all employees follow industry standard health and safety guidelines as well as wage and hour policies.
- Monitor and review the performance of freelance staff; resolve any work-related conflicts within the freelance staff.
- Collaborate and coordinate between relevant departments including Content, Marketing, Finance, Creative and others.
Who You Are
- 8+ years’ managing the full life cycle of taped and live productions and post edit processes in broadcast and/or cable TV.
- 4+ years’ experience in a supervisory capacity.
- An in-depth understanding of the full life cycle of content creation.
- Creative mind that can both generate ideas and understand what is needed to produce the project.
- Demonstrated ability to work with multiple leads to coordinate efforts and meet deadlines.
- Excellent project management skills with acute attention to detail and process.
- Familiarity with production equipment.
- Experience coordinating and planning off-site remotes, managing crews, and working with outside vendors and location scouting.
- Excellent organizational skills; ability to effectively multi-task in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.
- Solid financial acumen; experience creating and maintaining production budgets.
- Strong leadership skills and the ability to coach and motivate others.
- The ability to travel as needed.
- The flexibility to work varying shifts including nights and weekends.
- Possess strong interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with production staff.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Communications or other related field or equivalent experience.
- Working knowledge of OSHA and EPA regulations.
- Self-starter that works effectively on their own with minimal supervision.
- Understands directives and takes initiative to complete assignments.
- Proficient in MS office suites including Excel and Word, and Movie Magic Budgeting software.
- Experience with digital technology a plus.
