The San Francisco Chronicle is looking for a summer intern to join our team of digital producers and audience editors. In this paid, 12-week summer internship, you will embed with the cross-functional teams that produce sfchronicle.com, manage our social channels and plan our multimedia initiatives. You will gain wide exposure to how we engage readers, listeners and viewers across platforms.

All college students are encouraged to apply, with preference given to students who are either studying at or have recently completed a degree at a Bay Area four-year or community college.

 Requirements:

This full-time position is based in San Francisco, and the workweek likely will be Monday through Friday. Weekend, evening and holiday work may be required as news warrants. The summer internships typically begin in June and last through August. Applications are due by Friday, Oct. 25, 2024.

Duties:

  • Receive training and mentoring from editors and colleagues across departments.
  • Draft social media posts for Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
  • Train and work in the online CMS to produce digital article pages.
  • Create digital-first content: Depending on the candidate’s skills, this may include writing articles, shooting and/or editing digital video, and creating content targeted to specific social media channels like TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, etc.

What we’re looking for:

· Overall: Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with content ranging from breaking news to food guides to sports. Interest in audience engagement work, especially social media strategy and digital-first content. 

· Multimedia skills are a plus: Video and photo editing experience, or interest in creating graphics, photo or video content for social media.

· Newsroom experience: Strong college publication experience or previous internships preferred, but not required.
