Little, Brown Books for Young Readers (LBYR) is seeking an editorial assistant who is passionate and knowledgeable about children’s book publishing to both the VP, Publisher and Senior Editor at Christy Ottaviano Books. The Editorial Assistant is responsible for providing administrative and editorial support, involved in all stages of the acquisition, editorial, and book making processes for picture books, middle grade, and young adult fiction and nonfiction. The editorial assistant is also responsible for managing the Christy Ottaviano Books social media platforms as well as any interdepartmental requests and communications for the eponymous imprint.

This is a NYC based role. Please note: Effective in January 2025, HBG’s hybrid model will be 3 days in-office, 2 days working from home.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Interact professionally with internal departments within Christy Ottaviano Books/Little Brown Young Readers and HBG, including design, publicity, marketing, production, sales as well as authors and agents.
  • Perform administrative duties, including scheduling, photocopying, handling mail, filing, directing/responding to inquiries, ordering office supplies, maintaining book archives, filing expense reports, coordinating business travel, maintaining contact database, misc. research projects, etc.
  • Prepare related materials for book projects through all stages of the editorial process from acquisition through final book.
  • Enter title data into proprietary database systems and maintain data throughout publishing process.
  • Draft and circulate contract forms.
  • Draft descriptive copy and fact sheets that will be used to explain books to the sales and marketing departments.
  • Attend and prepare materials for editorial meetings, and marketing and sales meetings as required.
  • Read, report on, log in, track, and respond to submissions of projects targeted to children and young adults
  • Research book sales using internal and external databases.
  • Participate in brainstorming meetings and share ideas for books and other product.

The compensation for this position is $47,500. Salary can vary based on a number of factors including skills, experience, and location — talk with your recruiter to learn more. There may be times that you will be required (or requested) to work overtime due to the nature of your role or exceptional workload issues or special projects.
