Summary:
Press-Telegram and Daily Breeze, subsidiaries of MediaNews Group, are seeking a Staff Photographer to join the team! MediaNews Group offers news reporting and third party advertising and marketing opportunities through its multi-platform products which include: web, mobile, tablet, and print. We are one of the largest media groups in the U.S., serving high-value audiences and connecting advertisers to them. MNG publishes award-winning content (49 Pulitzers) that amasses and engages a nationwide audience via 800 multi-media platforms including web, mobile, social, and print. We are transforming the news industry.
What you will do:
  • Make story-telling photos for all sections of the newspaper and website, including news, features, and sports
  • Cover spot news and be able to turn around photos quickly on deadline
  • Gather accurate and complete information for AP-style photo captions
  • Have an understanding of the assigned stories and be able to communicate that via photos with context and visual impact
  • Maintain photographic equipment and digital archives
  • Create online galleries
  • Communicate effectively with reporters and editors
  • Adhere to photojournalistic standards and ethics
  • Edit photos and video from the field and ensure that all visuals are completed on time and delivered as needed
  • Work with the design hub on page design.
What you will bring:
  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, photography, communication or equivalent experience
  • Prior experience as a staff photographer at a daily or weekly newspaper and as a photojournalist, video and audio creation and editing skills
  • Experience with digital content and all social media platforms; page design experience is a plus
  • A goal-setter with the vision to achieve them
  • Prior experience with Adobe Suite including Photoshop and InDesign
  • Flexible schedule is offered to ensure ability to produce each edition
  • Some weekend work may be required
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required
The hourly wage is $19.23 - $28.85. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, time in role, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, MediaNews Group offers a comprehensive benefits package, and 401K plan (all benefits are based on eligibility).
