KUSA-9NEWS, the TEGNA NBC affiliate in Denver, is looking for a Broadcast Director. The primary responsibility of this position is to direct the weekend morning show and other newscasts as needed using production automation. This person will also work weekdays with our dayside and nightside broadcast directors operating cameras and assisting in the studio. The Broadcast Director will work closely with our news, production and technical teams to produce fast-paced, compelling and comprehensive newscasts and special shows.
KUSA is looking for someone who is a team player and willing to work a varied schedule, including nights and weekends. This candidate will be someone who brings forward-thinking production ideas, strong technical knowledge and must also be familiar with studio operations, including floor directing, camera operation, teleprompter, graphics creation, audio, lighting and non-linear editing.
Responsibilities:
- Direct weekend morning live newscasts using Sony ELC automation among other production equipment.
- Oversee the overall look of newscasts and on-air programming.
- Identify and correct potential problems before they hit air.
- Troubleshooting technical systems when required.
- Use non-linear editing and content management systems for programming, commercial and digital content creation.
- Operate robotic and/or manual studio cameras for live or taped productions
- Various studio operations during live or taped productions
- Assist with live shots and ENG acquisition.
Requirements:
- TV Production or related degree preferred or equivalent experience may be substituted.
- Experience (1-2 years preferred) with production automation, video switchers, newsroom computer systems, video servers, and graphics systems.
- Ability to adapt quickly and respond effectively for breaking news and unexpected events.
- Excellent communication skills, with an emphasis on working as a team with multiple departments.
- Experience with ENPS, Sony ELC, Chyron, BitCentral systems and manual switching is a plus.
- Flexible scheduling: this position includes weekend mornings, day and night shifts and holidays.
Pay Range: $26-$28/hour
