BLACKMALED PRODUCTIONS is a film and television production company founded by writer-director-producer, Malcolm D. Lee. The company produced THE BEST MAN: THE FINAL CHAPTERS, which at the time of its release, was the most watched show in the history of Peacock. Additionally, Blackmaled has sold and is currently developing multiple projects at Peacock, NBC, Netflix, BET+ and more. With the BEST MAN franchise, GIRLS TRIP, and SPACE JAM 2, Blackmaled Productions is dedicated to telling diverse stories that contribute to changing and amplifying the narratives of people of color.


Job Description: Interns will work alongside producers to support a variety of projects across film and TV. Interns will work primarily on script and book coverage, as well as complete research projects, perform administrative duties, participate in staff meetings, and support the team with ad hoc daily tasks. They will gain a strong understanding of film and TV development and of the industry at large. 


Responsibilities: 

  • Provide detailed and articulate coverage on all projects, including writing samples, film scripts, television pilots, screeners, and books.
  • Log and track incoming submissions using Airtable; compile weekly Weekend Read document with all incoming submissions.
  • Assist in finding intellectual property (IP) such as articles, books, and Universal IP to support ideas across film, TV, and unscripted. Participate in monthly pitch meetings where interns have the chance to pitch projects to executives. 
  • Ad hoc research assignments, which may include researching filmmakers and talent, sourcing photos for pitch decks, and assisting with background research for projects.
  • Come into the office at least twice a week (we are located at Universal) and perform administrative office tasks, such as ordering office supplies and stocking the kitchen.
  • Cover for assistants who are out of office, which includes answering phones, scheduling, and other admin tasks. 

Qualifications:

  • Script coverage and/or book coverage experience highly preferred. Ability to objectively and critically evaluate and assess creative materials.
  • Attention to detail, ability to work independently, strong organizational skills, and ability to communicate professionally with high-level executives. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills while understanding the importance of maintaining a strict level of confidentiality with high-profile partners.
  • Experience with Google Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, Canva, and Airtable is a plus.
