Job Description
Position Purpose
Under minimal supervision and acting on own initiative, the Graphic Designer is responsible for creating design solutions that have a high visual impact in print and digital applications including websites, social media, advertising, collateral materials, magazines, posters, product packaging, exhibitions and displays, corporate communications and corporate identity (i.e. giving DFV a visual “brand.”) The Graphic Designer will use artistic sensibilities and knowledge to design elements to create materials that support the DFV wine brands and corporate endeavors. The Graphic Designer will be involved in managing more than one design project at a time and allocating the relevant amount of time according to the value of the job.
Functional Responsibility
Essential Duties
- Conceptualizes and designs templates for POS collateral including neck hangers, shelftalkers, and accolade sheets
- Illustrates concepts by designing rough layouts of art and copy regarding arrangement, size, type size and style, and related aesthetic components
- Communicates messaging visually by referencing objectives and considering the final output
- Takes direction and feedback in a constructive way, offers feeback
- Establishes and updates brand style guides
- Proofreads to produce accurate and high-quality work
- Designs advertisements, invitations, websites/web graphics, social media graphics, tradeshow/event materials, brochures
- Contributes to the design of wine packaging (labels, corks, closure, and shippers)
- Obtains approvals from project managers and compliance
- Works with various vendors to facilitate final product, creates prepress files and ensures the delivery of correctly prepared, complete, accurate artwork to printers, publications and manufacturers
- Attends Press Checks to ensure quality of output for projects
- Researches and purchases stock photography; maintains record of license and usage rights
- Retouches or reformats photographic image files
- Organizes and art directs photo shoots with the Creative Manager
- Maintains technical knowledge by attending design workshops; reviewing professional publications; participating in professional societies
- Participates in monthly team meetings
- Manages project deadlines, expectations, and budgets
- Updates Creative Services project matrix on a daily basis
- Organizes, monitors, archives, and maintains graphic files on the Creative Services shared folder
- Other duties may be assigned

- Maintains all studio devices: printers, scanners, digital cameras, etc.

Minimum Requirements
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Communication Design, Visual Studies, or other design-related fields or equivalent years of experience
- 5+ years in graphic design with increasing levels of responsibility
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Highly motivated and self sufficient
- Advanced knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite for MacIntosh including Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign
- High level of professionalism and self-confidence
- Design curious – passionate, observant and self-motivated to stay current on design trends
- Photoshop expertise (image adjustment, lighting fixes, paths & masks, actions, file batch automations, prep for print & web)
- Strong sense of concept development, layout composition, color theory and typography
- Ability to implement pre-determined design styles as well as create new layouts and campaigns
- Strong communication skills; ability to liaise with vendors, articulate design process and justification
- Meticulous approach and polished delivery
- Ability and desire to collaborate with coworkers
- Ability to juggle multiple deadlines
- Budget conscious
- Marketing wine experience a plus
- Knowledge of MicroSoft software including Word, PowerPoint and Excel
- Knowledge of video production a plus

California Pay Transparency Disclaimer: This is a Exempt position. The pay range for this position is $71,497.92 to $111,708.24. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role. Actual placement within range will be contingent upon a number of factors, including but not limited to the candidate's qualifications, education, experience, internal equity and alignment with market data.
