Master Control Operator/Production Assistant

The top station in El Paso/Las Cruces, KVIA-TV is looking for a talented, driven Production Assistant to join its dynamic team. Successful candidate will edit programs and do switching during live sports events. They will also perform traditional production assistant duties (audio, studio camera) as well as editing news-of-the-day stories. This is an exciting position with great potential for growth. Flexible schedule required. College Degree and/or relevant experience preferred. Qualified applicants should be highly motivated and eager to learn all positions within our production department.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Edit & make ready programs for broadcast
  • Ensure program and commercial inventory run according to rundowns
  • Do some switching during live events
  • Operate studio cameras for live and recorded programming
  • Assist department in studio management, lighting, and equipment maintenance.
  • Operate audio console for live and recorded programming.
  • Edit newscasts for live and recorded broadcasts.

Qualifications

  • 1 to 3 years previous experience in television station's production department or production house, or completion of internship at KVIA
  • Must work well under pressure.
  • Must be able to work flexible schedule that could include early mornings, nights, and weekends.
  • Must be a team player and eager to learn.
  • Must work well in a team environment and have ability to take direction from producers and directors.
  • Familiarity with non-linear editing, computer graphics and animation programs.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Requires highly organized, multi-tasking, individual who can handle multiple deadlines.

Minimum Physical Requirements of Position

  • Positioned in front of monitor – 3 to 8 hours of each shift
  • Use of fingers to operate keyboard and mouse – 4 to 8 hours of each shift
  • Walk from one area of department to another – as needed
  • Vision, specifically near acuity within 20-foot range
  • - 8 hours of each shift
  • Speaking/communication with team – 8 hours of each shift
  • Listening for verbal cues and direction
  • - 8 hours of each shift
