We are seeking stagehands with a focus on audio to join the Artistic Programming Department, where they will be responsible for installing, operating, and maintaining audio elements for a wide range of multi-disciplinary events and performances.

A successful audio stagehand will be a flexible and collaborative team player, passionate about supporting artistic goals, with excellent problem-solving abilities and a keen ear for audio quality. Self-motivation, a strong commitment to safety, and a focus on hospitality are essential in this role. These positions are governed by Little Island’s collective bargaining agreement with IATSE Local One and report directly to the Production Manager.

Artistic Programming
Little Island’s artistic programming is dedicated to creating new work in dance, theater, music, and opera. In 2024, the Island launched a commissioning program that featured nine world premieres from distinguished creators, including Twyla Tharp, Anthony Roth Costanzo, Davóne Tines, Henry Hoke, Pam Tanowitz, Britton Smith, Qween Jean, and Chris Thile. By collaborating with artists across genres and disciplines, the program aims to create unique collaborations and projects for our outdoor stages and help ensure their continued success in the future.

Audio Department Role(s) and Hourly Rates

  • Amph A1: $40.00/hour
    • Operate the front-of-house audio mix, archival recording, and playback for all Amph productions.
    • Supervise work calls, daily stage setup, strike, and general equipment maintenance.
  • Amph A2: $35.00/hour (through April 28th, 2025), then $35.96/hour
    • Set up and strike backline and other onstage equipment.
    • Place microphones on performers.
    • As needed, operate independent onstage monitor mixes.
    • Maintain intercom, video, and other backstage infrastructure.
    • Operate deck tracks during performances.
  • Glade A1: $40/hour
    • Operate the front-of-house audio mix and archival recording for all Glade productions.
    • Supervise daily set up, maintenance, and strike calls.
    • Collaborate with artists to advance their technical needs prior to onsite work.
    • Lead soundchecks, ensuring that technical excellence is maintained in all Glade performances.
  • Glade A2: $35.00/hour (through April 28th, 2025), then $35.96/hour
    • Set up and strike backline and other onstage equipment.
    • Place microphones on performers.
    • Serve as monitor engineer for all Glade performances.
  • Audio Overhire: $32.50/hour (through April 28th, 2025), then $33.39/hour
    • Serve as overhire audio stagehand, A1, A2, or monitor engineer as needed for project specific load-ins, load-outs, show runs, and maintenance calls.

What You’ll Do

  • Collaborate closely with the Production Manager, Associate Production Manager, project-specific designers, and other Artistic Programming staff to ensure the successful execution of the technical requirements for a variety of events.
  • Prepare, load-in, maintain, and load-out audio equipment on our outdoor stages, both seasonally and on a day-to-day basis.
  • Work collaboratively on interdepartmental tasks, including stage setup and equipment maintenance.
  • Adhere to Little Island’s safety protocols and actively contribute to maintaining a safe and efficient work environment.
  • Participate in achieving Little Island’s artistic goals by delivering consistent, high-quality production support across a wide range of events.
  • Perform other duties related to the park and its artistic programming operations as assigned.

What You Bring

  • Experience programming and operating Yamaha CL-series consoles across a variety of genres and formats, both at FOH and/or as a monitor engineer, including line-by-line mixing.
  • Knowledge of backline setup, RF coordination and maintenance, Dante networking, and general audio troubleshooting techniques.
  • Familiarity with theatrical A2 practices.
  • Hands-on experience with Clear-Com Freespeak, d&b R1, Reaper, and Figure 53 QLab.
  • Strong interest in working in public performance settings, with a focus on guest interaction as a key component of daily production activities.
  • Knowledge of aerial lift operation (including scissor lifts and articulating boom lifts) is a plus.
  • Ability to lift objects weighing up to 50 lbs. overhead for sustained periods.
  • Comfortable with ascending and descending ladders.
  • Flexible availability, including evenings and weekends.
