Animation Supervisor

This role is considered Hybrid, which means the employee will work 2-3 days onsite at a Company designated location and occasionally from home.
Position Summary
The Animation Supervisor collaborates with the director in the creative and aesthetic approach to the animation, while maintaining character performance direction and reviewing the animation to deliver the expected and desired performance.
What You’ll Do
- Supervise and review the animation submissions to deliver the expected and desired performance and footage quotas
- Insure and maintain the quality and style of the character performance and acting continuity across the project
- Review the work of the animation teams on a regular basis and approve shots for submission
- Provide input for the technical setup of the models to be animated
- Provide those engaged in the character rigging process with constructive feedback on performance specific requirements so as to ensure consistency and avoid production issues
- Assess the work of prospective animation candidates for the hiring process and collaborate with Production Management on hiring decisions
- Provide input to formalize training and mentoring of animators to ensure all crew members are appropriately skilled and production-ready
- Provide input on the mentoring and training of the animation crew in performing tasks relative to the overall professional development of the animators. This includes handling performance review processes and performance management issues.
- Occasionally may be required to perform hands-on shot work on show and provide reference performances including motion capture performances as part of assigned shot work and to assist the animation team
What We’re Looking For
- At least eight years of relevant professional VFX experience and at least a college level diploma or higher in computer graphics, fine arts, design, or photography, or related field; OR at least 10 years of relevant professional VFX experience
- Proven track record of successfully working in a supervisory or consulting capacity on several animation productions
- Must have an extremely creative and critical eye for guiding the quality of the animation
- Must be a skilled decision maker, problem solver and an exceptional communicator
- Expert knowledge of various software applications. Maya is a necessity. Technical expertise is a plus.
- Must be able to communicate to the animation crew and production team accurately and effectively
The hiring range for this position in Vancouver is C$195,000 to C$240,000 per year based on a 40-hour work week. The amount of hours scheduled per week may vary based on business needs. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A full range of medical, financial, and/or other variable pay or benefits, may be offered dependent on the level and position offered.
