Reporting to the director of the Digital Learning Studio, the Multimedia Producer will be knowledgeable in the full production cycle of media projects – design, capture and production. The Multimedia Producer will work across a range of media types (e.g. video, podcasts, graphics, animation) but may specialize in 1 or 2 media types. Key to this role is the ability to quickly move from one project to the next bringing efficiency and innovation. Focusing on the 3 functional areas, responsibilities may include the following:
Essential duties and responsibilities:
Media projects:
- Serve as point-of-contact for multiple online course media projects each full semester.
- Pre-production – Guide project partners (e.g. Faculty, Instructional Designers) through the unit design process including providing project leadership, communications expertise, shaping plans to unit standards, script copy -editing and guidance for on-screen presentation. It is essential to prepare for and lead in-person design meetings with partners. Create storyboards/styleboards, original graphics, original animations, prototypes, etc.
- Capture – [Videography track] Serve as videographer welcoming clients into the studio, preparing them to record and then conducting the recordings. Acquire media using professional tools and apply knowledge of lighting, scenery, camera angles and other production-related skills. Communicate with graphics designer.
- Capture – [Graphics design track] Attend recording session following design plans and making notes. Communicate with videographer.
- Development – Prepare media versions as assigned, send them for review, gather feedback, and make edits. Ensure that all productions are in alignment with unit standards and design plans established in pre- production.
- Recommend and make contributions to improvements in media design and production workflows.
Consultations:
- Hold one-on-one consultations with faculty and other LAI staff as they arise. (Must be able to meet in person).
Unit data management:
- Execute defined data management standards and practices.
- Recommend improvements in active storage, data collection, data archiving and data sharing.
Required professional competencies:
- Teaming skills – Prepare for, attend and report out at weekly standup, team and one-on-one meetings in ways that inform others and keep all stakeholders abreast of project status.
- Partner management skills – Proactive, clear and direct with all partners on needs, expectations and collaborative opportunities that enable projects to keep moving forward and meet deadlines.
- Project management skills – Able to manage multiple projects and activities effectively using project management tools to ensure that all stakeholders and unit leadership are continuously aware of project statuses.
- Integrative skills – Able to “see the big picture” and how each project partner/team contributes. Knowing when to rely on partners for contributions, when to ask partners for engagement and when to escalate problems to unit leadership.
- Digital production skills – Maintaining a team mindset with other media producers that recognizes unique skills and interests to help growth in the depth of team collaboration, products and abilities to assist partners in their growth.
- Digital communications skills – Plan for and seek opportunities to meet with clients in-person, but always be available to meet as needed. This includes in-person, phone, email, chat and Zoom/WebEx.
The incumbent may perform other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 2 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master’s degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- B.A./B.F.A. in Communications, Journalism, Photography, Graphic Design, Digital Media Design, or Instructional Technology.
- 1-3 years of media design and/or production experience is preferred.
- Some project management and partner management experience.
- Knowledge of media design and production processes and tools/software.
- Ability to contribute to continuous product evolution.
- Ability to help create new and reimagined production quality standards.
- Capacity to partner with and guide (in-person and online) a range of domain experts on digital communications.
- Capacity to positively impact teaching and learning experiences with thoughtful digital communications design.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational and written communications skills.
- Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud tools – Premiere Pro, Rush, Photoshop, InDesign, Express, After Effects, Illustrator, Audition Knowledge of various project management tools and software (e.g. Monday.com, Jira, Asana).
- Familiarity with Learning Management Systems (e.g. Blackboard, Canvas, Moodle).
