Position Focus:
The Poorvu Center for Teaching and Learning seeks a Motion Graphic Designer who will increase the visibility of Yale University through all forms of multimedia and distribution channels. The position will reside within the Yale Broadcast Studio and report to a senior member of that team. The Motion Graphic Designer will contribute to all phases of production for a wide variety of audio, video, and digital content with a particular focus on educational content. The Motion Graphic Designer will work as part of a team of technological and pedagogical experts to create academic content for initiatives supported by the Poorvu Center. One example initiative is the University’s portfolio on the Coursera massive open online course platform, which has more than 10 million enrolled learners around the world. As part of the Poorvu Center, the Yale Broadcast Studio provides content production services to a variety of educational initiatives including massive open online courses, online degree programs, and technology enhanced residential courses. The Motion Graphic Designer will engage in all phases of production for these and related projects. Strong video editing skills and experience are essential. The Yale Broadcast Studio facility houses three separate video studios and one audio studio. The Motion Graphic Designer will be called on to provide support to studio productions. Support needs could include lighting/grip, floor manager, audio assistant, or production assistant. The Poorvu Center culture is characterized by teamwork and respect. Motion Graphic Designer will participate in all phases of production from idea conception to recording to final editing for a variety of content, with a particular focus on educational content, create visual assets either from scratch or by modifying existing slides to enhance faculty’s lessons, collaborate with an internal team of technological and pedagogical experts as well as clients, including faculty and senior administrators, to integrate video and other multimedia formats into lectures, teaching material, and other communications. The Motion Graphic Designer will also assist in the intake and management of media files, collaborate with other A/V and media groups on campus to ensure highest production standards are met and generate and maintain accurate documentation on all project related activities, equipment status, and project billing.

Essential Duties
1. Serve as producer for the creation of educational content.2. Collaborate with clients, including senior staff and faculty to develop strategies for integrating video and other multimedia formats into their lectures, teaching and other communications.3. Provide perspectives on devising solutions for the high-quality capture of media during field productions and in identifying and evaluating new methods for creating educational media components.4. Coordinate with other A/V and media groups on campus.5. Assist in managing the intake of a large amount of media files.6. Provide oversight of daily client service activities to ensure the proper level of service and staffing is maintained at all times. 7. Produces a variety of media with the ability to compress the final product in the latest web friendly formats including knowledge of encoding for live broadcast.8. Generate and maintain accurate documentation on all project related activities and equipment status.9. Provide guidance, assistance, creative direction and training to clients as needed.10. Serve as camera operator, lighting grip, floor manager or production assistant as necessary.
Required Education and Experience
Bachelor's Degree with 2 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Skill/Ability 1:
Excellent graphic design skills, creating compelling visuals that enhance explanations of complex concepts. Proficiency with production tools used to create/capture educational media such as Adobe’s Creative Suite, Final Cut Pro, or DaVinci Resolve.
Required Skill/Ability 2:
Excellent skills in post-production. Candidate must be a strong video editor and familiar with sound design and mastering
Required Skill/Ability 3:
Demonstrated ability to encode and upload digital assets to online and social media platforms.
Required Skill/Ability 4:
Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills and demonstrate careful attention to detail. Ability to communicate effectively and collaboratively with peers across the University. Demonstrated commitment to excellent client service.
Required Skill/Ability 5:
Demonstrated ability to take direction and yet act independently; work effectively as a member of a team. Possess the ability to remain calm under pressure and comfortable with a fast-paced work environment. Demonstrated ability to be a creative problem-solver.
Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:
Bachelor's Degree in a media production field and 2 years of experience in media production or an equivalent combination.
Preferred Licenses or Certifications:
Must have a valid Connecticut Driver’s License. Must have the ability to carry video production equipment short distances when necessary.
