Founded in 2012, Portland Thorns FC have set the standard for fan support and on-field success in women’s soccer since its inaugural 2013 season. One of the world’s most supported women’s soccer clubs, Portland has led the league in attendance for eight seasons and set a new club playoff attendance record last year with 25,218 fans supporting Thorns FC in the 2023 semifinal match at Providence Park. Thorns FC have won the NWSL Championship a league-record three times (2013, 2017, 2022) and finished as runners-up in 2018. The club has made the postseason a league-high nine times and has won the NWSL Shield in 2016 and 2021.

THE ROLE:
Portland Thorns FC is seeking a talented Graphic Designer to join our creative team. Reporting to the Art Director, you will be responsible for creating both digital and print-based graphics that align with the Thorns’ visual identity. Our ideal candidate is detail-oriented, technically proficient, passionate about design, and up to date with the latest trends. A design portfolio is required for consideration.

WHAT YOU’LL BE UP TO:
  • Design and develop digital and print graphics that align with the Thorns brand and business objectives.
  • Create and manage team assets across all platforms, ensuring timely delivery and consistency with brand guidelines.
  • Conceptualize original ideas and campaigns to support marketing, ticket sales, merchandise sales, and overall brand development.
  • Collaborate with Digital, Social Media, Game Entertainment, and stadium teams to maintain a cohesive and engaging visual presence across all channels.
  • Work with the Corporate Partnership Team to design presentation decks and sponsorable assets.
  • Lead the development of the Thorns visual brand and season-long campaigns, working with agencies as needed.
  • Oversee part-time and consultant designers, providing guidance and final creative approvals.
  • Consistently meet deadlines while delivering high-quality, on-brand results.

WHAT IT TAKES TO BE A THORN:
  • Degree in digital and graphic design
  • At least 5+ years’ experience in design field
  • Experience in professional sports preferred
  • Be able to make decisions in a fast-paced atmosphere
  • Must have strong interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work and collaborate across multiple departments
  • Ability to work various shifts including Thorns matches, evenings, weekends and holidays
  • Experience with Animation and Web Design a plus
  • Must have thorough knowledge of graphics-related Macintosh software including Adobe Creative Cloud programs: Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and Acrobat. Motion graphics, video editing, and/or 3D graphic experience
