About the Role & Team:


ABC NEWS, is seeking a highly skilled and knowledgeable Business Producer/Reporter to join our Specialized Units, known for leading among competitors in exclusive and groundbreaking coverage always with accuracy and objectivity. As a mid-level professional with expertise in business news reporting, you will have the opportunity to inform and engage our massive global audience with accurate, timely, and compelling stories about the world of finance and economics that impacts politics and policies and the lives of everyday people.

What You Will Do:

  • Research, investigate, and report on business-related topics, including corporate news, financial markets, economic indicators, and emerging trends. 
  • Generate engaging story ideas and pitch them for approval, ensuring relevance and appeal to our target audience.
  • Conduct interviews with key industry figures, analysts, and executives to gather insights and quotes for articles and news segments.
  • Cover press conferences, congressional hearings, company earnings calls, and industry events to gather firsthand information and develop unique angles for stories.
  • Write, edit, and fact-check reports, and features for broadcast, print, online, podcasts and other multimedia platforms, adhering to established journalistic standards and style guidelines.
  • Approve scripts and copy for all ABC News platforms.
  • Collaborate with editors, producers, and other team members to develop multimedia content, including video reports, podcasts, and infographics.
  • Monitor news wires, press releases, and social media platforms to stay updated on breaking news and identify potential story leads.
  • Analyze complex financial data and market trends to present accurate and insightful analysis to our audience.
  • Stay informed about industry regulations, policy changes, and geopolitical developments that impact the business landscape.


Required Qualifications & Skills:

  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in business news reporting, preferably with a major news organization or financial publication.
  • Strong understanding of business and economic principles, financial markets, and industry dynamics.
  • Demonstrated ability to write clear, concise, and engaging copy under tight deadlines.
  • Excellent research, interviewing, and fact-checking skills.
  • Proficiency in using digital tools and platforms for news gathering and content production.
  • Knowledge of multimedia storytelling techniques, ability to shoot video is a plus.
  • TV experience is a plus.
  • Familiarity with AP style guidelines and ethical standards in journalism.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to present complex information in a clear and accessible manner.
  • A passion for staying up-to-date with current events and an insatiable curiosity for uncovering newsworthy stories.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree or related experience
  • Preferred major in Journalism, Communications, Economics, or a related field.

The hiring range for this position in New York, NY is $104,200 to $143,200 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
