Principal Designer

What will you work on?

This senior level design position is 25% blue sky product concept ideation and development and 75% execution of projects that may be driven by brand and marketing requirements. A Principal Designer is the senior most hands-on designer on the team. The ideal candidate can ideate new concepts and then create functional mock-ups or render for approval. The role is responsible for creating either through individual effort or collaboratively with the rest the staff, a fully functional model of the concept. This person works closely with management on new brand initiatives and collaborates on creative strategy for key brands and individual items.

• Partner with Innovation Management to set direction for new product concepts.
• Deliver innovative results that support product expansion strategy.
• Work with production team to ensure integrity of design in final deliverables.
• Manage the timelines of the projects assigned.
• Maintain a consistently high level of quality, thoroughness and attention to detail.
• Effectively communicate all project related progress/issues or concerns to Management in a timely and professional manner.
• Solicit creative direction from the Management in a timely manner.
• Assist Design Managers and Brand Management teams where required to develop marketing support materials, creative boards and layout presentations for new and existing business development presentations, new brand initiatives and trade shows.
• Collaborate with Engineering, Marketing, Quality Control and Product Development teams as well as overseas offices, in the product development and approval process.
• Maintain knowledge of new technologies within your area of expertise.

What are your skills and experience?

• Consumer products industry; toy design preferred
• Advanced knowledge of, and expertise using Solidworks, Onshape, Rhino, Illustrator, Photoshop and other tools such as ZBrush is a plus.
• Model making using tools such as 3D printing, laser cutting, SLA, traditional machinery, sewing and CNC.
• A strong sense of design and invention for new products.

The anticipated pay range for candidates who will work in California is $135,000 to $160,000 Per Annum. The offered pay to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to years of experience within the job, years of experience within the required industry, education, etc. Spin Master Inc. is a multi-state employer, and this salary range may not reflect positions that work only in other states.
