The person we’re looking for:
PUBG Studios Seattle is seeking a Technical Artist to take on a high-impact role on our team.
The Technical Artist plays a crucial role in bridging the gap between the creative and technical aspects of video game development. You will work closely with the art and engineering teams to implement and optimize game assets, ensuring they meet both artistic vision and performance requirements. This position is ideal for a candidate with strong technical knowledge and a solid understanding of the art creation process, who can contribute to solving complex technical challenges while maintaining visual fidelity.
This is an in-office position in Bellevue WA and reports to the Technical Art Director.
Responsibilities:
    Assist in the creation and maintenance of art pipelines, workflows, and tools to optimize asset integration into the game engine.
    Implement, troubleshoot, and optimize art assets in the game engine, ensuring they function correctly and efficiently on target platforms while maintaining a high visual standard.
    Develop and optimize shaders and materials to achieve desired visual effects while maintaining performance goals.
    General oversight for lighting systems - troubleshooting, debugging and testing.
    Write scripts and tools (e.g., using Python, C#, or MEL) to automate repetitive tasks and improve productivity for the art and animation teams.
    Work closely with the engineering team to identify and resolve performance bottlenecks related to 3D assets, materials, lighting, and effects.
    Collaborate with game designers, animators, and engineers to ensure smooth asset workflows and compatibility across the game engine.
    Troubleshoot technical issues related to art implementation and provide solutions that balance artistic quality and technical constraints.
Requirements:
    Minimum 4 years of experience as a Technical Artist in video game development or related field.
    Strong proficiency in industry-standard 3D software packages (e.g., Maya, 3ds Max, Blender) and game engines (e.g., Unity, Unreal Engine).
    Good knowledge of real-time rendering techniques, PBR workflows and lighting systems.
    Experience with scripting languages such as Python, C#, or MEL for automating tasks and creating custom tools.
    Experience with shader languages such as HLSL, GLSL, or node-based shader creation tools.
    Proven experience in optimizing assets for performance and memory without sacrificing quality, with a deep understanding of polycounts, texture budgets and draw calls.
    Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills in both visual and technical issues.
    Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with artists, designers, and engineers.
    Strong attention to detail and a passion for creating high-quality, polished game content.
    Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git, Perforce).
Bonus Skills:
    Motion Capture & Animation: Experience working with animation pipelines, including motion capture data and/or pre-simulated animation integration
    Real time and offline VFX workflows: Experience using Houdini, Unreal Engine 5/Niagara etc.
    Physics based, and other procedural animation: Experience in creating real time dynamic elements via physics-based systems or vertex shaders.
    Proactive, self-motivated, and able to work independently.
    Passion for video games and interactive entertainment.
    Strong desire to learn and stay updated with the latest industry trends and technologies.

In Washington, the expected salary range for this position is $110,000-$130,000. The listed expected salary range represents a good faith estimate and the actual pay may depend on a variety of job-related factors that can include experience, education, skills, and location.
