Job Summary:

The R&D Department develops computer graphics software systems and techniques that advance the state of the art in feature film visual effects. R&D Engineers work closely with ILM artists and production crews to identify, develop and support technology solutions, workflows and user interfaces.

R&D develops tools and technologies across a broad range of areas within visual effects, animation, and computer graphics, including:

  • Modeling, rigging, animation, skinning, physically-based simulation

  • Computer vision and data acquisition, facial modeling, performance capture

  • Physically-based simulation of natural phenomena, procedural animation of crowds

  • Compositing and image processing

  • Virtual production, realtime rendering, in-camera visual effects

  • Asset management, 3D scene representation and assembly, artist-facing pipeline design

As an intern, you will join a project development team and work alongside full-time engineers.

This role is considered Hybrid, which means the employee will work 2-3 days onsite at a Company designated location and occasionally from home.

What You’ll Do

  • Apply current computer graphics research toward solving visual effects production challenges.

  • Develop software tools for use in visual effects pipelines.

  • Assist in the maintenance and support of software systems in use.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency in C++ and/or Python programming.

  • Experience with and interest in machine learning for computer vision or image processing is a plus.

  • Prior experience or demonstrated interest in visual effects is a plus.

Eligibility Requirements & Program Information

Candidates for this opportunity MUST meet all of the below requirements:

  • Be enrolled in an accredited college/university pursuing a degree taking at least one class at time of application OR currently participating in a Disney College Program or Disney Internship. Current Disney Interns, College, International, or Culinary Program Participants: You may only work for ONE consecutive year (12 months) in any combination of an internship and/or program.

  • Be at least 18 years of age

  • Possess unrestricted work authorization

Additional Information

  • Must be able to have a consistent, reliable work schedule throughout the internship

  • The approximate dates of this internship are Summer 2025 however we are flexible

  • Must provide own housing and reliable transportation during the internship in the San Francisco, CA  area


The pay rate for this role in San Fransisco, CA, is $45.00 per hour.
