Job Summary

The Department of Media Production focuses on delivering compelling, high quality promotional and educational video content. The team serves departments across our multiple campuses, including the President’s Office and student organizations.

The Multimedia Producer/Photographer takes projects from concept to delivery both as an individual producer as well as in a team-based, collaborative environment. The projects may focus on faculty and student research projects, human interest stories, commercials, instruction, live events, athletic media, and other opportunities that enhance the university’s reputation.

The position requires demeanor and maturity to work well with everyone from high level executives to students. The Multimedia Producer/Producer collaborates with other content creators within the Media Production team, as well as the larger Division of Marketing and Communications. The position collaborates on strategic video projects from the conceptual development stage, through implementation, to delivery of the finished product via multiple channels.

The Multimedia Producer/Photographer must be able to responsibly carry a project through to completion with a fair amount of autonomy. The position requires strategic, on the fly decisions during production to ensure consistent quality, branding, and narrative structure. The position is responsible for hitting milestone targets and deadlines on both large scale and small-scale projects.

The Multimedia Producer must also be able to work with and teach student media staff in a variety of disciplines, including photography & video production, on-set etiquette, postproduction techniques, and equipment management.

As a member of the university’s media team, the Video Producer assist the A/V team in the setup, operation, and tear down of A/V equipment (including cameras, microphones, speakers, and more) for large scale university events, including graduations, groundbreakings, and press conferences.

Position is required to work some evenings and weekends.


Major Responsibilities/Duties/Critical Tasks

  • Responsible for video production for various stakeholders at multiple sites across UT Tyler and UT Tyler Health Science Center.
  • Develops, writes, shoots, edits, and delivers compelling, high quality promotional and educational video content.
  • Leads efforts in planning, scouting, and securing locations for projects.
  • Leads storyboarding, writing, conducting interviews, composing shots, filming, and editing content on projects.
  • Responsible for composing, shooting, and editing photos at candid events and formal video setups.
  • Servies as a member of the media team and assists in setup, running and teardown of audio, multicamera, and video LED setups as needed.
  • Participates in strategic planning for designing promotional and educational video projects.
  • Liaises with all internal stakeholders and external customers regarding video and photography projects.
  • Serves in an advisory capacity when evaluating existing media and photography equipment.
  • Oversees and manages part-time student assistants.
  • Completes other duties as assigned.


Required Education/Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Digital Media Production, Communications, or a related field.
  • Two (2) years of professional experience in video projection or related field.
  • Proven track record of supporting and delivering quality video work to clients.
  • May accept a combination of education and experience.


Preferred Education/Experience

  • Experience working with cinema cameras and accessories, producing instructional content, motion design, visual effects, and/or graphic design preferred.
  • Experience working with executive level stakeholders preferred.


Accompanying Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Competencies

  • Maintains a full understanding of key skills, including framing and composition, non-linear editing, format and codecs, lighting, and color grading.
  • Ability to use Adobe Suite, including Premiere, Lightroom, Photoshop and After Effects.
  • Maintains knowledge on latest trends and practices in video production.
  • Ability to provide excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to deliver excellent customer service.
  • Ability to prioritize while adhering to critical project timelines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience managing day-to-day changes at every level of detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently at varying levels of complexity.
  • Ability to work with a significant degree of autonomy in a responsible manner.
  • Ability to work with all levels of faculty, staff, leadership, and students.

Additional Information

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
