KIRO TV Seattle is seeking a dynamic Managing Editor to serve as the second-in-command in our newsroom, overseeing the day-to-day production of editorial content. This is an opportunity for a seasoned journalist who not only understands the pulse of the industry but also knows how to lead with vision and inspire a team to push the boundaries of traditional journalism.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Leadership & Management: You will be at the helm of our newsroom, steering the daily editorial process and overseeing all Content Center operations to ensure our content consistently meets and exceeds our high standards.
- Storytelling & Mentorship: You’ll guide and coach our reporters and digital content producers helping them craft compelling stories for all platforms
- Digital Platforms: You’ll ensure our digital presence meets our high-standards while winning breaking news and hitting digital KPI targets
- Innovation & Risk-Taking: You’ll embrace innovative approaches and take calculated risks to drive our newsroom forward, fostering a culture that thrives on creativity and accountability.
- Investigative Reporting: You’ll oversee our Investigative Team, ensuring they produce impactful, high-quality content that resonates with our community.
- Weather Coverage: You’ll prioritize weather coverage across all platforms, with a special focus on integrating user-generated content both on-air and digitally.
- Talent Recruitment: You’ll be responsible for sourcing and recruiting top journalism talent to join our team, ensuring we remain a leader in the industry.
Minimum Qualifications
- Minimum 15 years of large-market television newsroom experience, with a proven track record in fast-paced, high-pressure environments.
- At least 5 years of experience as a newsroom manager.
- Expert writing and editing skills, with a commitment to accuracy and clarity.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to articulate strategy, priorities, and feedback to team members, peers, and senior leadership.
- Proven ability to inspire, motivate, and foster collaboration within a newsroom.
- Deep understanding of editorial SEO best practices and experience implementing new workflows and tools to strengthen digital news operations.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends, as required by the demands of a 24/7 news cycle.
The salary range for this position is $125,000 to $146,260 per year. Final compensation for the role will be determined by a variety of factors such as skills, certifications, and relevant work experience.
