Distribution Manager
Position Overview:
The Distribution Manager operates under the leadership of the Distribution Director, managing the day-to-day distribution operations within assigned market areas. This role is essential in ensuring all company products are delivered efficiently, aligning with the department’s financial and delivery objectives. This is a salaried, exempt position primarily during nighttime hours, including weekends and holidays.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee daily distribution to independent contractors for both home delivery and retail sales.
- Supervise and monitor independent contractor activities at distribution centers to ensure accurate product and supply allocation.
- Perform field operations, stepping in to cover routes when necessary.
- Support recruitment, contracting, and orientation of new contractors that meet all contract service level standards.
- Works closely with staff and Commercial partners to ensure 3rd party data accuracy, billing and returns.
- Assist Distribution Director in budget preparation, route optimization, distribution center service goals and KPI’s while continuously optimizing network to drive site level savings.
- Plan, evaluate, and execute departmental goals and initiatives.
- Operate within financial constraints of the department's budget, seeking ways to reduce costs, expand product distribution, and enhance market share.
- Oversee negotiation of delivery service agreements with independent contractors to optimize profits and reduce independent contractor churn.
- Achieve or surpass departmental home delivery and single copy service level goals.
- Plan and execute special projects as assigned.
- Maintain a safe and efficient distribution center and remote drop-off locations.
- Other tasks as assigned by Distribution Director.
What you need to be successful:
- High School Diploma/bachelor’s degree preferred with 5-10 years relative experience.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license, insurance, and access to a reliable vehicle.
- Experience in contract management.
- Strong communication skills and ability to resolve disputes.
- Proficient in basic math (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
- Capacity for varied physical activities and lifting up to 100 pounds.
- Basic computer and technology skills.
- Demonstrable leadership capabilities and planning skills.
- Effective scheduling abilities.
